This blurb was printed in the latest issue of Chart Notes (Survivorship’s Monthly Newsletter) and was written by Jean Riseman.

December Conference – 12/1/01

Our latest conference was on programming. Jeannie spoke on demystifying programming, and Neil Brick of S.M.A.R.T. spoke on his recent memories and research. There were small groups and another art show.

It was moving to hear Neil speak of how much Survivorship has meant to him since the early nineties. Neil is one of the many Survivorship members who, after gathering their strength for a bit, have created other resources for RA survivors. Besides his newsletter, he puts on a three-day conference every summer on the East Coast and is a major collector of information on ritual abuse and mind control. He’s a true RA/MC knowledge junkie!

It felt to me, at least, that the East Coast and the West Coast were joining together in our common struggle for healing, justice, and truth. And that felt great!…

This is the first part of the presentation I made at Survivorship this December. (This may be heavy for survivors.)

I want to thank Survivorship and all those that have helped for asking me to speak today. It is an honor to be able to speak for a newsletter that helped me a great deal in the early years of my recovery.

Before I begin, I wanted to talk about the last few months and how they have affected me. As a survivor, I have day time and night time alters. The day time ones used to be depressed, but through the last ten years of recovery they became more positive and the night time ones, which were cult related, some containing specific emotions, like anger, sadness, confusion and a kind of manic joy. After September 11, a lot of the amnesic barriers seemed to dissolve. I started to realize that the country was becoming like a cult in a lot of ways, and I started to feel more aware and more present, but also a very objective kind of sense of doom, like we may be going into some very dark times. I realized the extreme importance in my previously espoused philosophy of checking all data out very clearly without letting my emotions cloud my perspective. Of course, there were feelings I needed to process around this. I was stunned like everyone else. I saw people becoming either very jingoistic, waving flags and wanting war, others falling into what I consider some fairly incredulous theories about what happened and some preaching peace and nonviolence and patience.

I realized that it is possible that this country could have planned it, allowed it to happen or just was so incompetent that they missed all the signals that it was going to happen. I realized that whatever the precedents to this were, it was going to be used to control and manipulate people through fear and repetition, and hurt other innocents around the world. It would be used to help corporations make more money, through weapon building and an oil pipeline through Afghanistan.

I decided that my survivor advocacy would have to expand even further, to educate people about what was really going on, so that the survivor movement could continue to grow and help others. I would need to get more involved in the political arena, to help all people to keep a very necessary flow of information going, so that the media’s mind control would not be successful, at least where I was able to promote my ideas.

As survivors, I feel it is very important to speak out now, to get stronger and to make sure we are well informed and aware of what is going on. To be prepared to do what we have to in terms of educating others to stop evil and evil people from hurting others. To remember that we are all connected. If a person is killed with a bomb on the other side of the world, we must try to let others know this is wrong. To realize that a person wrongly imprisoned without evidence and without just cause could someday be us or those in the survivor movement. Educating the public is very important right now. Fear will allow evil to win. Right action and right speech can stop it.

1000 Residential School Lawsuits May Reopen – 11/23/01 – Residential school lawsuits may re-open – Law limiting such actions to be changed By Frank Landry, Legislature Reporter Winnipeg Sun “An estimated 1,000 lawsuits by aboriginals claiming they were abused while attending residential schools in Manitoba might be re-opened if the province passes proposed changes to the Limitation of Actions Act, says a Winnipeg lawyer….A Manitoba Court of Appeal decision in September of this year wiped out the claims. The province’s top court ruled the cases could not proceed because the alleged abuse occurred more than three decades ago.”

Scientist’s Fatal Stabbing – Suspects Friends of Daughter, Police Say By Maria Glod – Washington Post Staff Writer 12/13/01 “Three people were charged with murder yesterday in the slashing death of a respected Loudoun County biophysicist in what law enforcement sources say was a particularly vicious killing….Sources said Schwartz was stabbed several times in what they described as a ritualistic slaying. One source said his body was found facedown and an “X” was carved into the back of his neck. Devout Mormon or devilish warlock ? Bizarre details unfold in Bishop hearing – By Jeff Chorney Staff Writer – Martinez – Glenn Taylor Helzer was both a devout Mormon and a warlock who manipulated women to further his moneymaking plans, witnesses told police during an investigation into the killings of five people….Some acquaintances described him as a religious Mormon – the common term for a follower of the Church of Latter-day Saints – who debated with leaders at his temple. Pastor who dabbled in MPD therapy accused of having sex with his client’s 6 year old alter personality. AP – 11/3/01 Split Personality – Las Vegas – After counselor William Robert Hough was bound over for trial on sex charges, his attorney said Hough was “practically stalked” by the woman he is accused of assaulting. Michael Amador said Friday the woman, … may be faking a case of multiple personality disorder….The other side includes a troubled woman who reverted into the personality of a 6-year-old girl on the witness stand during Hough’s preliminary hearing….Hough will be arraigned Nov. 13 on two felony charges of sexual assault and one charge each of abuse of a client, and open and gross lewdness.

Is there a tilt toward abusers in child custody decisions?, 2000 Sachs, N. P. (2000). Journal of Psychohistory, 28(2), 203-227. “This article discusses why abusers are often favored by personnel in the legal system during child custody disputes. The author maintains that the public is either indifferent or ignorant of the tendency of judges, guardians, caseworkers, and mediators to favor the superior litigator rather than the protective parent. Parents who see fit to use their power over the protective parent in court are often not questioned about their intentions, and their skills at manipulation and lying are often effective in unnerving parents who are honest and have their childrens interests in mind.”

Lawyers told to act against Central America’s child sex trade By Daniel Nelson, OneWorld UK – 11/1/01 – “More than 2,500 lawyers from all over the world have this week been asked to help stop Central America’s child sex trade. The call for action was made by a leading child rights campaigner to what he called “the Global Voice of the Legal Profession,” the annual convention of the International Law Association in Cancun, Mexico. Most of the thousands of children trafficked every year are girls aged between 12 and 17. Many come from Latin America’s army of street-children, estimated at 40 million “…thousands of Central America’s most important assets are trafficked to cities and countries to be sexually abused by adults,” said Bruce Harris.”

Women charge sex abuse by Portland priest – By Bruce Olson (all accusations are alleged) – “Portland – Ore. (Reuters) – Two women sued the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon, Monday for $8.6 million, saying their parish priest sexually abused them half a century ago when they were little girls. The two sisters, aged 60 and 61, said the abuse took place in 1948 when they were 7 and 8 years old while a nun stood by and did nothing to stop it.”

Terrible legacy of Lake Alice – 10/27/01 – by Simon Collins – In Niuean, the message said: “I have been given electric shock by the people, Mum. The pain is very bad.” The writer: Hakeaga (Hake) Halo, then aged 13, writing to his grandmother in Auckland from Lake Alice Psychiatric Hospital near Wanganui in 1975….(25 years) later, another Government finally apologised this month to Halo and 94 other “children of Lake Alice” who fought a four-year battle for compensation. EPA won’t consider results of pesticide tests on people – Agency to seek ethics answers by Shankar Vedantam (12/15/01) – Washington Post Service – Washington — The EPA…announced a moratorium on considering the results of controversial trials that test pesticides on people. The agency, which evaluated such trials for three pesticides this year, said it would ask the National Academy of Sciences to recommend whether such research is ethical and scientifically useful….Three trials evaluated by the agency this year subjected volunteers to doses of pesticides hundreds of times greater than levels that EPA regulators had determined to be safe for the general public, according to study documents obtained by The Washington Post. Many of the paid volunteers who swallowed the pesticides developed symptoms such as headaches, nausea and vomiting, but company-paid scientists concluded the symptoms were not caused by the chemicals and that the pesticides were safe at the doses tested. (None of these toxins are known to have found their mark.) Officially, OPS was a division of the Agency for International Development, but the director of OPS in Washington, Byron Engle, was an old CIA hand. The history of torture: A chat with Darius Rejali a politics professor at Reed College – CourtTV – 11/20/01 “There is a long history of American involvement with governments that torture their citizens…in the 1950s and ’60’s the US government provided training under the Office of Public Safety program to countries in Asia and Latin America whose police forces were known to torture…there is evidence that the U.S. government, particularly the CIA … and military advisors, offered support and training specifically for torture. In 1973, Senator Abourezk sponsored a bill that abolished the OPS program for these reasons, since the highest recipients of OPS support were also the countries that Amnesty International identified as the greatest human rights violations. In the 1980’s similar questions were raised about U.S. programs in other countries to control narcotics trafficking. Carleton Gajdusek – “1952-53: Several bio-weapons (allegedly) were employed by the U.S. in Korea, including brucellosis. Who Killed Lumumba? 10/21/01 “…the brutal murder of Congo’s charismatic first prime minister 40 years ago…1961 Patrice Lumumba, first and only elected Prime Minister of Congo, was murdered. The circumstances of his death remained a mystery, the identity of his killers unknown….Larry Devlin, the CIA station chief in Leopoldville received orders from Washington to await the arrival of… CIA’s chief technical officer, Dr Sidney Gottlieb. He had brought with him a special tube of poisoned toothpaste. Devlin’s job was to get the toothpaste into Lumumba’s bathroom. Devlin:”I had never suggested assassination, nor did I believe that it was advisable,” he says now. U. Of Albany Suspends Implants Research – Albany Times Union – 8/25/99 – Professor whose work is at issue has focused on surgically inserted mind control devices. Imagination inflation: A statistical artifact of regression toward the mean. Pezdek K, Eddy RM Mem Cognit 2001 Jul; 29(5):707-18; discussion 719-29 “In the imagination inflation procedure of Garry, Manning, Loftus, and Sherman (1996), subjects rated a list of events in terms of how likely each was to have occurred in their childhood. Two weeks later, some of the events were imagined; control events were not. The subjects then rated the likelihood of occurrence for each event a second time. Garry et al. (1996) reported that the act of imagining the target events led to increased ratings of likelihood. This finding has been interpreted as indicating that false events can be suggestively planted in memory by simply having people imagine them.
