Prince Andrew named in US lawsuit over underage sex claims Paul Lewis and James Ball  Saturday 3 January 2015   In case related to banker Jeffrey Epstein, woman alleges in court filing that she was forced to have repeated ‘sexual relations’ with duke
A woman who claims that an American investment banker loaned her to rich and powerful friends as an underage “sex slave” has alleged in a US court document that she was repeatedly forced to have sexual relations with Prince Andrew.
The accusation against the Duke of York is contained in a motion filed in a Florida court this week in connection with a long-running lawsuit brought by women who say they were exploited by Jeffrey Epstein, a multi-millionaire convicted of soliciting sex with an underage girl after a plea deal….
The woman, who filed the motion anonymously, alleges that between 1999 and 2002 she was repeatedly sexually abused by Epstein who, she also alleges, loaned her out to rich and influential men around the world.
The document – a motion to expand an ongoing lawsuit relating to prosecutors’ handling of Epstein’s case with two new plaintiffs – alleges that the woman “was forced to have sexual relations with this prince when she was a minor” in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein.
The prince is not a named party to the legal claim, which is directed against federal prosecutors. He has not had any opportunity to respond to the allegations in the legal claim.
The woman is said to have been 17 at the time, considered to be a minor in Florida.
In a 2011 Vanity Fair article, Prince Andrew denied any sexual contact with young women associated with Epstein….
Another close associate of Epstein who is also accused in the lawsuit, Alan Dershowitz, told the Guardian that the woman’s accusations against himself were “totally false and made up”.
The Harvard law professor and esteemed criminal defence attorney who later advised Epstein on how to respond to the FBI’s investigation is accused in the court motion of having sexual relations with the woman when she was a minor and of witnessing the abuse of other minors….
In 2006, the FBI opened an investigation into allegations that Epstein had been paying for sex with underage girls at his Palm Beach mansion for years. By the following year federal prosecutors said they had identified 40 young women who may have been illegally procured by Epstein.
In 2008, however, the federal inquiry was dropped after Epstein negotiated a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to a relatively minor state charge relating to soliciting paid sex with a minor – a 14-year-old girl. He served 13 months of an 18-month sentence and is now a registered sex offender.
Many of his alleged victims have since reached out-of-court settlements with Epstein, who was once considered among the wealthiest investment bankers in the world.
However, two of Epstein’s alleged victims, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, have brought a lawsuit arguing that federal prosecutors violated a victims’ rights statute by failing to consult them over Epstein’s secret deal.
The pair won a significant legal victory in July last year entitling them to see previously confidential documents from the plea bargain discussions between Epstein’s lawyers and federal prosecutors….

Prince Andrew denies involvement in ‘sex slave’ case: Read the claims and the full legal text
The Independent Tuesday 06 January 2015
Below is the full text of the legal document detailing the allegations of the alleged Espstein ‘sex slave’ scandal which is claimed to have involved Prince Andrew. It has been edited only to remove legal jargon and other legal references.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has strongly denied that the Duke of York had and involvement or knowledge of such matters.
First, the paragraph in which Prince Andrew is mentioned:
Perhaps even more important to her role in Epstein’s sexual abuse ring, Maxwell had direct connections to other powerful individuals with whom she could connect Epstein. For instance, one such powerful individual Epstein forced Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with was a member of the British Royal Family, Prince Andrew (aka Duke of York). Jane Doe #3 was forced to have sexual relations with this Prince when she was a minor in three separate geographical locations: in London (at Ghislaine Maxwell’s apartment), in New York, and on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands (in an orgy with numerous other under-aged girls). Epstein instructed Jane Doe #3 that she was to give the Prince whatever he demanded and required Jane Doe #3 to report back to him on the details of the sexual abuse. Maxwell facilitated Prince Andrew’s acts of sexual abuse by acting as a “madame” for Epstein, thereby assisting in internationally trafficking Jane Doe #3 (and numerous other young girls) for sexual purposes.
Ghislaine Maxwell has strongly and consistently denied procuring girls for Epstein….
Case No. 08-80736-Civ
As the Court is aware, more than six years ago, Jane Doe #1 filed the present action against the Government, alleging a violation of her rights. She alleged that Jeffrey Epstein had sexually abused her and that the United States had entered into a secret non-prosecution agreement regarding those crimes in violation of her rights. At the first court hearing on the case, the Court allowed Jane Doe #2 to also join the action. Both Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 specifically argued that the government had failed to protect their rights (inter alia) to confer, to reasonable notice, and to be treated with fairness. In response, the Government argued that the rights did not apply to Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 because no federal charges had ever been filed against Jeffrey Epstein….
Epstein also sexually trafficked the then-minor Jane Doe, making her available for sex to politically-connected and financially-powerful people. Epstein’s purposes in “lending” Jane Doe (along with other young girls) to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political, and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information.
One such powerful individual that Epstein forced then-minor Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with was former Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, a close friend of Epstein’s and well-known criminal defense attorney. Epstein required Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on numerous occasions while she was a minor, not only in Florida but also on private planes, in New York, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to being a participant in the abuse of Jane Doe #3 and other minors, Deshowitz was an eye-witness to the sexual abuse of many other minors by Epstein and several of Epstein’s co-conspirators. Dershowitz would later play a significant role in negotiating the NPA on Epstein’s behalf. Indeed, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement that provided immunity from federal prosecution in the Southern District of Florida not only to Epstein, but also to “any potential co-conspirators of Epstein”. Thus, Dershowitz helped negotiate an agreement with a provision that provided protection for himself against criminal prosecution in Florida for sexually abusing Jane Doe #3. Because this broad immunity would have been controversial if disclosed, Dershowitz (along with other members of Epstein’s defense team) and the Government tried to keep the immunity provision secret from all of Epstein’s victims and the general public, even though such secrecy violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act….
Maxwell facilitated Prince Andrew’s acts of sexual abuse by acting as a “madame” for Epstein, thereby assisting in internationally trafficking Jane Doe #3 (and numerous other young girls) for sexual purposes….

How A Famous Harvard Professor Got Caught Up In A Financier’s Sex Abuse Scandal
 Erin Fuchs  Jan. 5, 2015
One of America’s most famous lawyers, Alan Dershowitz, is being accused of having sex with an underage girl who was allegedly being exploited by one of his clients.
Dershowitz — a professor emeritus at Harvard Law who’s famous for defending O.J. Simpson — refutes those allegations, which were made as part of a lawsuit filed by lawyers including Paul Cassell (a former federal judge) on behalf of women who were allegedly sex trafficked as minors by the financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Two women are suing the federal government for striking a plea agreement with Epstein gave him 18 months in prison for pleading guilty to child sex crimes. The women (known only as Jane Doe) claim the government violated the Crime Victim Rights Act by failing to notify them of the deal for Epstein, who was a financial adviser to billionaires.
Here’s where Dershowitz comes in. Last week, Cassell and another lawyer for the Jane Does, Bradley Edwards, filed a motion asking the court to add two more Jane Does to the case. That motion stated that a girl known only as Jane Doe #3 had been forced to have sex with “powerful people,” including Dershowitz, who had represented the financier….

Dershowitz: ‘I’m an Innocent Victim of an Extortion Conspiracy’
Jan 2, 2015 by Jacob Gershman
Attorney Alan Dershowitz is swinging back at what he describes as fabricated claims, alleged in a U.S. court document, that he was involved in a prostitution ring connected to the Jeffrey Epstein sex scandal….
“It’s a completely, totally fabricated, made-up story,” Mr. Dershowitz told Law Blog in an interview Friday. “I have never had sex with an underage woman. They made up this story out of whole cloth. I’m an innocent victim of an extortion conspiracy.”….

Jeffrey Epstein: Prince Andrew’s paedo billionaire pal ‘tried to stop girls he abused talking to FBI’ Jan 06, 2015    By Piers Eady  Court papers claim that Epstein tracked down girls and promised to ‘look after them’ if they kept quiet
Prosecuters believed Jeffrey Epstein was tampering with potential witnesses when he was investigated over underage sex crime allegations, court documents have revealed.
A document titled ‘Statement of Undisputed Facts; drawn up in 2008 by Bradley Edwards, a lawyer for one of Epstein’s victims says: “Edwards has had a good basis to believe and did in fact believe that to avoid the Government learning about his abuse of minor girls, Epstein threatened his employees and demanded that they not cooperate with the government.
“Epstein’s aggressive witness tampering was so severe that the United States Attorney’s Office prepared negotiated plea agreements containing these charges.”
The documents describe Epstein ‘harassing and pressuring’ one of his alleged sex slaves into not co-operating with the investigation. Following a complaint from the mother of a 14-year-old from Florida, Epstein was arrested on suspicions of paying her £130 for an erotic massage in 2005.
More than a dozen victims had come forward with similar tales of their abuse at the hands of Epstein when he secured a controversial deal with US prosecutors.  Those who did not co-operate with Epstein were apparently warned ‘bad things’ would happen to them if they helped prosecutors, the Daily Mail reports.  Epstein pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of soliciting minors – which earned him an 18-month jail sentence of which he served less than 13 months. But he was granted immunity from prosecution on a series of other underage sex charges that could have seen him locked away for a decade.
Epstein is a self-made billionaire who met Prince Andrew on several occasions around the world in exclusive locations during a close relationship spanning a decade….
It is claimed that Virginia Roberts became Epstein’s “sex slave” and that he made her “available for sex to politically-connected and financially-powerful people”.
Prince Andrew is one of those identified by Roberts, a claim he emphatically denies.
The court document claim Epstein offered Roberts and other girls to influential friends and contact in order to “ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information”.  There is no suggestion Prince Andrew was aware of Epstein’s sordid other life. But they regularly enjoyed each other’s company.  Epstein flew in his private Gulfstream jet to the Bahamas in 1998 to meet Fergie and her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.  The following February, Prince Andrew visited the US Virgin Islands where he stayed on Little St James, Epstein’s private tropical paradise.  He is also reported to have visited Epstein’s sugar-pink mansion in an exclusive area of West Palm Beach, Florida. This property was later raided by the FBI and found to contain numerous pictures of Epstein’s underage victims, who he allegedly groomed from the age of 14 and paid £130 an hour for sordid “erotic massages”….

Alan Dershowitz sued in Prince Andrew sex abuse case  7 January 2015
Lawyers representing a woman who has alleged Prince Andrew and law professor Alan Dershowitz had sex with her when she was a minor are suing Mr Dershowitz for defamation.
The lawyers accuse Mr Dershowitz of mounting a media assault on their reputation and character.
The development comes a day after he began legal proceedings to clear his name.
Both Buckingham Palace and Mr Dershowitz deny the claims.
On Monday, Mr Dershowitz filed papers at a court in Florida, where the case is being heard, to contest what he described as “absolutely outrageous claims”.
The former Harvard law professor has asked for his name to be removed from documents which accuse him and Prince Andrew of having sexual relations with Virginia Roberts, known in court as Jane Doe #3, who was under the age of consent in the US at the time of the alleged incidents.
In media interviews, Mr Dershowitz accused Ms Roberts’ lawyers, Paul Cassell and Bradley Edwards, of “unethical” behaviour warranting disbarment.
The pair said their reputations had been damaged by such comments and that they were seeking damages.
In response, Mr Dershowitz said he was “thrilled” to be sued as it would give him an opportunity to disprove the two….
Documents filed in a Florida court last week allege that Ms Roberts was sexually trafficked by Epstein, who forced her to make herself available for sex to “politically connected and financially powerful people”….
Ms Roberts claims she was forced to have sex with the prince on three occasions – in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island owned by Epstein – between 1999 and 2002, when she was under age according to US law.
Epstein and Prince Andrew were formerly friends and the pair were photographed meeting in December 2010, after the tycoon had served his prison sentence.
The prince later had to apologise for his friendship and stepped down as the UK’s special representative for trade and investment.
Buckingham Palace has said the sex claims against the duke lack “any foundation”….

Prince Andrew sex allegations: Jeffrey Epstein ‘the most dangerous sexual predator America has ever seen’, lawyer’s letter claims
Prosecutors believed that Epstein ‘pressurised witnesses’ to hide the truth about claims that he procured underage girls for sex  Roisin O’Connor   Wednesday 07 January 2015
Jeffrey Epstein “may be the most dangerous sexual predator the [US] has ever seen” according to claims in a recently revealed lawyer’s letter, as it emerges that the FBI allegedly possesses “secret documents” about the American billionaire that could provide evidence for under-age “sex slave” accusations against him.
Epstein is accused of forcing a 17-year-old girl to have sex with Prince Andrew, Duke of York – a claim Buckingham Palace has denied. The reported FBI documents are said to show that Epstein controlled under-age girls who could provide evidence about the claims….
The Times reported that a letter released by the court last year showed Brad Edwards, Ms Roberts’s lawyer, telling the US attorney’s office that Epstein “may be the most dangerous sexual predator that the country has ever seen”.
Dated July 2008, the letter continued: “The evidence suggests that for at least four years he was sexually abusing as many as three to four girls a day.
“He is a sexual addict that focused all his free time on sexually abusing children, and he uses his extraordinary wealth and power to lure in poor, underprivileged little girls and then also uses his wealth to shield himself from prosecution and liability.”….

PRINCE Andrew spent time with several young women and controversial film director Woody Allen while staying with paedophile friend Jeffrey Epstein in the United States, it has been claimed.
At least five girls were spotted going into Epstein’s New York mansion during Andrew’s 2010 visit, it has been claimed.
American Virginia Roberts, 31, has claimed she was forced to have sex three times with the Duke of York when she was 17, which in Florida is below the age of consent.
In explosive court papers she claimed she was recruited as a 15-year-old, turned into Epstein’s “sex slave”, and paid cash to sleep with his rich and famous friends.
It’s claimed Allen, 79, who caused outrage when he began a relationship with his young stepdaughter, Soon-Yi, in 1992, was one of the few male visitors to Epstein’s plush pad.
Neighbours say he arrived just before a Sunday lunch with Soon-Yi, 35 years his junior and now his wife, and the pair spent more than an hour inside.
Allen’s adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, has accused him of sexually abusing her as a child — a claim Allen denies.
Andrew, 54, stayed with the shamed Epstein, 61, for four days in December 2010, shortly after the billionaire financier had finished a jail sentence on child prostitution charges.
Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting an under-age girl for prostitution and jailed for 18 months….

….It is known Epstein and Andrew regularly holidayed together – from weekends at Balmoral and Sandringham, to trips to New York.
Epstein was, the source told The Times, ‘a big part of [Andrew’s] life’ – and pictures of the Duke surrounded by women thanks to the financier seem to have been par for the course.

Prince Andrew Sex Scandal Lawsuit Has High Legal Stakes  Michael Scherer  Jan. 7, 2015
….At issue is whether federal prosecutors have a legal obligation under the 2004 Crime Victims Rights Act to consult with victims of crimes during plea negotiations, even when settlements are reached before formal charges are filed. If a court eventually finds that they do, lawyers for four alleged victims of Jeffrey Epstein hope to throw out a plea deal he signed in 2007, allowing the prosecutors to seek new charges against him, and possibly others.
The roots of the case begin in 2005, when Florida police began investigating claims that Epstein was paying underage girls for sex at his West Palm Beach home. The investigation was later handed over to a U.S. Attorney, after investigators uncovered evidence that more than a dozen girls may have been victimized by Epstein.
After contentious negotiations, the Justice Department agreed to a deal with Epstein that required him to plead guilty to two state charges, including a single count of solicitation of minors for prostitution, to register as a sex offender and to serve a short jail sentence. Epstein also agreed to assist his victims in filing civil suits against him for the harm he had done. (Epstein later settled a civil suit filed by Virginia Roberts, the self-described “sex slave,” who has accused Prince Andrew and Dershowitz. Roberts’ initial filing in her 2009 civil suit included the claim that Epstein had required her to be sexually exploited by his “adult male peers, including royalty, politicians, academicians, businessman” and others.)
In exchange, the U.S. Attorney agreed to drop any further prosecution for the sex crimes, for either Epstein or the people who had allegedly helped him to recruit and pay the girls. The agreement also said that “the parties anticipate that this agreement will not be made part of any public record,” an unusual condition for such a criminal plea.
The outcome of the case shocked several of the victims, who felt blindsided both by the timing and the leniency. In the months that followed, two attorneys, a Florida trial lawyer named Bradley Edwards and a former federal judge named Paul Cassell, who is also a victims’ rights advocate and law professor, sued prosecutors for failing to properly notify the victims of the case, which they argued was required by the Crime Victims Rights Act. “This will send the message that federal prosecutors can’t keep victims in the dark about the plea arrangements they are making,” Cassell tells TIME about the rationale for the lawsuit….

Prince Andrew’s alleged underage sex victim wrote in diary she was ‘fearful of letting down the Prince’ Virginia Roberts, now 31, wrote in her ‘secret journal’ that she was just 17 when billionaire perv Jeffrey Epstein and his ‘madam’ Ghislaine Maxwell introduced her to Prince Andrew, who then wound up ‘caressing every part of (her) naked body.’ Roberts’ lawyers say the journal proves her claims aren’t ‘a recent fabrication.’
BY Dareh Gregorian NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Tuesday, January 13, 2015
…. Roberts made headlines earlier this month when it was revealed she was the “Jane Doe No. 3” who was fighting to have Epstein’s 2007 nonprosecution agreement with the feds tossed out. “Doe” identified the prince as one of the powerful men Epstein had forced her to have sex with in papers filed in federal court in Florida late last month.
In a statement, “Doe’s” lawyers, Brad Edwards and Paul Cassell, said they were aware their client, whom they have not publicly identified, kept a journal.
“The excerpts that have been publicly referenced were apparently shared with a journalist that interviewed Jane Doe #3 in 2011, at some time prior to our knowing or representing her,” the statement said, and “clearly rebut any contention that those allegations are the product of a recent fabrication.”
Maxwell and Buckingham Palace have strongly denied the sordid allegations, while a lawyer for convicted sex offender Epstein told Radar the charges were “stale” and “rehashed.”….

‘He Was Caressing Every Part Of My Naked Body And Filling My Head With Endless Compliments About My Blossoming Figure’: Diary Entries Of ‘Teen Sex Slave’ Detail Sordid Hook-Up With Prince Andrew — In Her Own Handwriting  Jan 13, 2015
The never-before-seen diary of a teenage “sex slave” spells out the “fearful” moment when she was coldly ordered to allow Britain’s Prince Andrew to have sex with her.
In a bombshell world exclusive, has exclusively obtained the secret journal of the then 17-year-old employed to have sex with billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his rich and powerful pals — and it’s packed with scandalous claims about her illicit trysts, including with Andrew, the fifth in line to the British throne….
Radar can also reveal that another important duty called for Roberts to score new sex slaves for her boss, just as she was required to do in the United States. “I would offer [girls] money to come meet my gentlemen friend and tell them I’d show them how to massage,” wrote Roberts….
Andrew, son of Queen Elizabeth II and a brother of Prince Charles, has labeled accusations that he slept with Roberts — claims resurfaced in a federal court filing in early January — as “categorically untrue.”….
Maxwell and Epstein have also dismissed the allegations, with the investment banker declaring: “These are stale, rehashed allegations that lawyers are now attempting to repackage and spice up by adding the names of prominent people,” said Epstein’s attorney, Jack Goldberger….

Jeffrey Epstein: Prince Andrew’s alleged efforts to protect paedophile pal could be revealed in court  Jan 15, 2015 By Christopher Bucktin  A judge has ordered the disgraced tycoon’s lawyers to come up with “extraordinary circumstances” as to why so-called ‘sex papers’ should be kept secret
Prince Andrew’s alleged bid to help paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein get a reduced jail sentence could be revealed in court for the first time.
A judge has ordered the disgraced tycoon’s lawyers to come up with -“extraordinary circumstances” as to why papers believed to contain the names of key figures, including the Duke of York, who lobbied on his behalf in a plea bargaining case should be kept secret.
If they fail, it means Andrew’s alleged efforts to protect 61-year-old Epstein could be revealed in full, sparking major embarrassment at -Buckingham Palace.
Epstein was jailed in 2008 for 18 months for soliciting a minor for prostitution. He could have been jailed for up to 20 years but cut a plea deal with prosecutors that gave him a much shorter term.
But two alleged victims, named as Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 in court papers, have launched a lawsuit in Florida arguing they should have been made aware of the deal, which granted the pervert a protective order preventing any details of the arrangement being made public….

Prince Andrew allegations: Scotland Yard asked to probe claims teenage ‘sex slave’ was trafficked to UK  Jan 15, 2015  By Nick Sommerlad   Peter Saunders of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood has passed Virginia Roberts’ allegations to ex-Operation Yewtree head Peter Spindler
Campaigners against child abuse have asked Scotland Yard to investigate claims a 17-year-old ‘sex slave’ was trafficked to London to romp with Prince Andrew.
Peter Saunders of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood has passed the allegations by US masseuse Virginia Roberts to ex-Operation Yewtree head Commander Peter Spindler.
Mr Saunders said: “If crimes have been committed here, they should be investigated.”
Court documents filed in Florida last month claim Andrew’s close friend, convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, arranged for Virginia to have sex with the prince after she was “internationally trafficked” into the UK.
If police decide to investigate, it could lead to Andrew being quizzed as a witness….
Buckingham Palace emphatically denies Andrew, 54, had any sexual contact with Miss Roberts, now 30.
She claims she also had sex with the prince at Epstein’s mansion in New York and on his private Caribbean island, where the age of consent is 18.

Simon Danczuk: child abuse inquiry is being deliberately sabotaged by Government
Labour MP claims vested interested are seeking to protect ‘high profile’ abusers
By Rosa Prince, Online Political Editor 22 Dec 2014
The Government is deliberately sabotaging the inquiry into historic claims of child abuse to protect “high profile figures,” a Labour MP has claimed.
Simon Danczuk, the backbencher who has led the calls for an inquiry into allegations of abuse dating back decades, said the problems which had dogged the probe set up last summer appeared to have been “quite deliberate mistakes by people in central Government.”
A letter leaked at the weekend showed that Theresa May, the Home Secretary, is considering abandoning the current panel, amid a catalogue of problems including the resignations of two chairman.
A victims’ representative said the only people who wished to see the inquiry fail were the abusers themselves.
Asked if he thought Theresa May, the Home Secretary, was responsible for a deliberate cover-up, Mr Danczuk said he was confident she wanted to get to the truth.
But he warned that victims could engage in “direct action” unless they began to see justice….

Notorious cult leader and sex attacker Little Pebble to be released on bail
November 12, 2014
NSW cult leader and convicted sex attacker William “Little Pebble” Kamm is set to walk free from Long Bay jail in Sydney’s south-east after being granted parole.
The German-born 64-year-old, who was convicted in 2005 of carrying out a number of assaults on two 15-year-old girls, was given early release with 11 months still to run on his maximum 10-year sentence….
The attacks were carried out while he ran a pseudo-Catholic cult known as the Order of St Charbel based in a compound in Nowra, NSW. Kamm claimed the Virgin Mary had appeared in a vision and told him one of the girls was meant to be one of his brides. He claimed he had been divinely ordained as a “new Abraham” and would become the patriarch of a new blessed race…. The Order of St Charbel is not regarded by the Catholic Church as part of its hierarchy, and Kamm himself was excommunicated in 2003 after he was illicitly ordained a bishop.

Bill Cosby’s Silence On Rape Allegations Makes Huge Media Noise  November 17, 2014  Eric Deggans
But in the recent explosion of attention to allegations that the comedy superstar drugged and sexually assaulted several women years ago, in incidents reaching back to the late 1960s, Cosby has remained uncharacteristically silent — epitomized by his interview with NPR’s Scott Simon, who found the comic would only shake his head and utter no sound when asked about the allegations.
His attorney did provide a statement posted on Cosby’s website that said, in part, “decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true. Mr. Cosby doesn’t not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment.”
Later, a joint statement from Cosby’s attorney and a lawyer for Andrea Constand, a woman who settled a lawsuit with Cosby over such allegations in 2006, was posted on the site that read, in part: “The statement released by Mr. Cosby’s attorney over the weekend was not intended to refer in any way to Andrea Constand. As previously reported, differences between Mr. Cosby and Ms. Constand were resolved to the mutual satisfaction of Mr. Cosby and Ms. Constand years ago.”
News of Cosby’s silence rocketed across media; the moment was covered everywhere from NBC’s Today show to CNN, USA Today and The Washington Post, which called it “perhaps the most significant dead air in the history of National Public Radio.”
When NPR most recently spoke to Cosby, four women had come forward publicly with rape allegations: Constand, Beth Ferrier, Tamara Green and Barbara Bowman. (See this story for a more detailed account of their allegations.) Over the weekend, another woman, 66-year-old publicist Joan Tarshis, also told media outlets she was drugged and raped by Cosby when she was 19 years old. Constand filed a lawsuit in 2005 that included 13 women willing to tell similar stories, Greene and Bowman among them; the suit was settled, no terms were disclosed and Cosby was never charged with a crime….

Bill Cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story?  Only when a male comedian called Cosby a rapist did the accusation take hold.
By Barbara Bowman November 13  In 2004, when Andrea Constand filed a lawsuit against Bill Cosby for sexual assault, her lawyers asked me to testify. Cosby had drugged and raped me, too, I told them. The lawyers said I could testify anonymously as a Jane Doe, but I ardently rejected that idea. My name is not Jane Doe. My name is Barbara Bowman, and I wanted to tell my story in court. In the end, I didn’t have the opportunity to do that, because Cosby settled the suit for an undisclosed amount of money.
Over the years, I’ve struggled to get people to take my story seriously. So last month, when reporter Lycia Naff contacted me for an interview for the Daily Mail, I gave her a detailed account. I told her how Cosby won my trust as a 17-year-old aspiring actress in 1985, brainwashed me into viewing him as a father figure, and then assaulted me multiple times. In one case, I blacked out after having dinner and one glass of wine at his New York City brownstone, where he had offered to mentor me and discuss the entertainment industry. When I came to, I was in my panties and a man’s t-shirt, and Cosby was looming over me. I’m certain now that he drugged and raped me. But as a teenager, I tried to convince myself I had imagined it. I even tried to rationalize it: Bill Cosby was going to make me a star and this was part of the deal. The final incident was in Atlantic City, where we had traveled for an industry event. I was staying in a separate bedroom of Cosby’s hotel suite, but he pinned me down in his own bed while I screamed for help. I’ll never forget the clinking of his belt buckle as he struggled to pull his pants off. I furiously tried to wrestle from his grasp until he eventually gave up, angrily called me “a baby” and sent me home to Denver….
They, like other sexual assault victims, deserve our support. It’s the perpetrators who should be facing public humiliation – not the victims….

Dr. Huxtable & Mr. Hyde  Who is Bill Cosby? What’s happened to the man who taught us to laugh at ourselves — and what do we do with him now? By Robert Huber   June 9, 2006
…. A young Canadian woman he met in Philadelphia through Temple University is accusing him of drugging her and then, when she was in a near-comatose state, molesting her. It went nowhere legally — the woman, Andrea Constand, waited a year before going to police, it boiled down to a he said/she said (Cosby claimed the sex was consensual, according to ABC News), and the police dropped the case for lack of evidence. But Constand filed a civil complaint in federal court in Philly last year, suing for an unspecified amount of money over $150,000. It is still Cosby’s no against her yes, except for one difference: Thirteen women are waiting to be deposed in the suit; in a court filing, Constand’s lawyer says that all of them — with nothing to gain, with no payout waiting, with their own statutes of limitations run out — have stories about Bill Cosby as well, and some of them will claim a similar drug-and-fondling M.O.
….The Story That Andrea Constand Tells
She met Bill Cosby in late 2002 when she was director of operations for Temple’s women’s basketball. He became a friend and mentor. In January 2004, Cosby invited Constand to his home in Elkins Park. She went there at about 9 p.m. Constand wanted to change careers and told Cosby she felt stressed. Cosby offered her three blue pills — herbal medication, he said, that would help her relax. She took the pills….
….The Story That Tamara Green Tells
Back in the ’70s, before Green became a lawyer, Cosby hired her to help him open a club in L.A. A week into the job, she felt sick, and called Cosby at Figero, a restaurant he owned, to say she was leaving for home. He invited her to the restaurant for lunch — it might make her feel better. She went. Cosby asked if she wanted some Contac, then handed her two gray-and-red capsules. She took them….
….The Story That Beth Ferrier Tells
Ferrier, 47, met Bill Cosby in 1984 when she was modeling in New York. They started an affair that lasted about six months. Cosby ended it without explanation. Then he called her one night in Denver, where she lived; they met backstage at a nightclub there, where he was performing. He said, “Here’s your favorite coffee, something I made, to relax you.” She drank it….
….The Story That Barbara Bowman Tells
Bowman’s incident with Bill Cosby occurred 20 years ago, when she was an aspiring actress. She told a lawyer. The lawyer laughed at her. She never mentioned it to an authority figure again. Bowman won’t disclose details of what happened before she’s deposed. But when she read about Andrea Constand, she decided that enough was enough — she couldn’t sit in silence any longer.

Bill Cosby Under Fire By Alex Tresniowski  The Comedian Settles a Case Accusing Him of Sexual Abuse—but Other Women Make Similar Claims
December 18, 2006    Vol. 66     No. 25
….What Cosby never mentioned was the civil lawsuit he settled just two days earlier with Andrea Constand, 32, a former Temple University employee who claimed Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Philadelphia-area mansion in 2004. Constand’s lawyers Dolores Troiani and Bebe Kivitz ended up with 13 witnesses, most referred to in court documents as “Jane Does,” who came forward voluntarily with strikingly similar claims of drugging and or abuse by Cosby. Terms of the settlement, reached before any of the women could testify, were not disclosed. But PEOPLE reporters have interviewed five of the women and share three of their stories now.
As in so many cases alleging sexual assault, these women make imperfect witnesses. They are talking about events two or three decades old. Many of their recollections are fragmentary, and in some cases, they are not even sure what happened between them and Cosby, though that is not unusual in cases where a possible date-rape drug is involved. None of the women ever contacted police with their stories, either at the time of the alleged assaults or in the years leading up to Constand’s revelations, and two of the five women reached by PEOPLE allowed Cosby to pay part or all of their travel and/or living expenses for some time. Three accepted cash from him years after the incidents, and two even went on to have consensual relationships with him.
But none of them stand to profit from suing Cosby for monetary damages; the statute of limitations on all their charges has expired. And their stories, which take place in several cities and span two decades, illustrate the same pattern of behavior….,,20059561,00.html

Barbara Bowman Speaks About Bill Cosby Sexual Abuse Allegations
By Katie J.M. Baker 2/12/14
Last week, Newsweek interviewed Tamara Green, one of 13 women who accused Bill Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them in a civil lawsuit brought by Andrea Constand in 2004, and settled under undisclosed terms in 2006. Now, a second woman is speaking out: Barbara Bowman, a 46-year-old artist who says Cosby took her under his wing in the late ‘80s, when she was a teenager — and repeatedly emotionally and physically abused her.
Both Bowman and Green joined the 2004 lawsuit as witnesses after hearing about it on television; neither had anything to gain financially, as the statute of limitations had expired for both of them….
Why do you think people find it so hard to believe celebrities can be sexual assaulters?
The media creates this idealized image of celebrities: that they are untouchable, that they’re not one of us… I don’t think people want to believe it; to believe would shatter the illusion….

One Very Important Thing Is Missing From the New Cosby Biography: A Timeline of the Abuse Charges [Updated] By Matt Giles

In interview with tabloid, Bill Cosby discusses molestation allegations By Bill Bergstrom ASSOCIATED PRESS March 4, 2005  PHILADELPHIA – Comedian Bill Cosby, responding to a woman’s allegations of sexual molestation, said “words and actions can be misinterpreted,” but he insisted he wouldn’t give in to any attempt to “exploit” him because he’s a celebrity….
The 67-year-old entertainer, best-known as a warm, wisecracking TV dad, was cleared of criminal charges in connection with the allegations. Attorneys for the Canadian woman said they plan to file a civil lawsuit against Cosby next week.
In the interview, Cosby said he didn’t speculate on whether money was the woman’s motive. “Let’s not go there,” he said. But he asserted: “I am not going to give in to people who try to exploit me because of my celebrity status.”….
The woman, who lives in Ontario, told Canadian authorities that, after a night out with friends in January 2004, Cosby gave her medication that made her dizzy, then fondled her.
Cosby denied the allegations. The accuser’s family had described Cosby as a friend and mentor to the woman, which he didn’t deny. He told the tabloid a role as mentor can lead to trouble.
“Sometimes you try to help people and it backfires on you and then they try to take advantage of you,” Cosby said.

Janice Dickinson accuses Bill Cosby of sexual assault during 1982 hotel meetup
In an interview with ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ the former supermodel said Cosby raped her in a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 1982. Dickinson is the third woman to accuse Cosby of sexual assault in the last month.

Former supermodel Janice Dickinson has accused Bill Cosby of sexually assaulting her.
The 59-year-old “America’s Next Top Model” judge told Entertainment Tonight the 77-year-old TV legend raped her more than two decades ago.
Dickinson claimed that in 1982, Cosby invited her to Lake Tahoe, where he was performing, to discuss a job he had offered her, as well as advice on her singing career.
She said that after she arrived in Tahoe, the two had dinner, and then when the two returned to her room, Cosby gave her “wine and a pill.”….
Cosby has never been criminally charged for any of the alleged sexual assaults.
However, he did settle a civil case in 2006 brought by Temple University employee Andrea Constand who originally claimed he drugged and groped her in his mansion.
Cosby’s lawyer John Schmitt issued a statement that dismissed Tarshis and Bowman’s claims as “decade-old, discredited” allegations….

EXCLUSIVE: Janice Dickinson Details Bill Cosby Sexual Assault Accusations: He Raped Me by Antoinette Bueno  November 18, 2014
With rape allegations against Bill Cosby mounting, supermodel Janice Dickinson tells ET in a new interview that the comedian sexually assaulted her in 1982.
Dickinson, now 59, recalls first meeting Cosby, now 77, when her agent set up a meeting with him to hire her for a role on The Cosby Show. After they had dinner, she says their next conversation was when he called her out of the blue while she was in rehab for drugs and alcohol. Following her stay in rehab, Dickinson says Cosby reached out to her during a trip to Bali and had her travel to Lake Tahoe, because he was performing there and wanted to offer her the job they had discussed as well as help her with a singing career.
Dickinson says they had dinner in Lake Tahoe, and claims that he gave her a glass of red wine and a pill, which she asked for because she was menstruating and had stomach pains….
Dickinson also says she tried to write about the assault in her 2002 autobiography No Lifeguard on Duty: The Accidental Life of the World’s First Supermodel, but claims that when she submitted a draft with her full story to HarperCollins, Cosby and his lawyers pressured her and the publisher to remove the details.
“I’m doing this because it’s the right thing to do, and it happened to me, and this is the true story,” she says about coming out with her story now. “I believe all the other women.”….

Bill Cosby’s Joke About Drugging Women in 1969 Resurfaces as New Alleged Victim Speaks Out by Jackie Willis  November 18, 2014 With Bill Cosby’s rape allegations once again in the headlines, some of his old jokes are now being unearthed and scrutinized. After two women have recently come forward claiming to have been drugged and raped by the comedian, a joke from Cosby’s 1969 album It’s True! It’s True! has been making the rounds. In the stand-up recording, he recounts a story of being a 13-year-old boy and learning that (allegedly) when you slip “Spanish fly” into a woman’s drink, it will make her more susceptible to a man’s advances.
“From then on, anytime you see a girl, ‘Wish I had some Spanish fly,'” Cosby is heard saying in his 1969 act. “Go to a party, see five girls standing alone. Boy, if I had a whole jug of Spanish fly I’d light that corner up over there. Haaa ha ha.”….
Cosby’s lawyer, John P. Schmitt, issued a statement on Sunday in response to the sexual assault allegations after Cosby’s initial response of just silence during an NPR interview.
“Over the last several weeks, decade-old, discredited allegations against Mr. Cosby have resurfaced. The fact they are being repeated does not make them true,” the statement reads. “Mr. Cosby does not intend to dignify these allegations with any comment….

Comeback by Cosby Unravels as Rape Claims Re-emerge
….But in recent weeks, his triumphant return to the national stage has fallen apart in the face of a wave of accusations by women who say Mr. Cosby drugged and raped them decades ago. On Wednesday, NBC said it was canceling the pilot project, and the cable network TV Land quietly decided to stop showing repeats of “The Cosby Show.” Less than 24 hours earlier, Netflix said it was postponing the debut of the comedy special. Other scheduled appearances by Mr. Cosby — on David Letterman’s late-night show and Queen Latifah’s daytime talk show — have also been canceled.
….Mr. Cosby’s lawyers have vigorously denied the accusations in recent days, and he has never faced criminal charges. But the troubles have put the star’s comeback in limbo and created awkward situations as he seeks to burnish his legacy. Mr. Cosby’s handlers, for instance, realizing that Mr. Letterman would have to ask Mr. Cosby about the rape claims, decided to scrap the appearance.
The accusations against Mr. Cosby have been all the more striking because his hit TV show, his commercials for Jell-O and his best-selling books about fatherhood helped him present an image of the ideal family man.
….A subsequent civil lawsuit brought by Ms. Constand promised to present testimony from 13 “Jane Does” with similar accounts of sexual assault. Mr. Cosby’s lawyer called the claims false and even preposterous; the suit was settled for an undisclosed sum in 2006.
One of the unnamed women in the suit, Barbara Bowman, a former actress, came forward publicly in The Washington Post last week to describe her experiences in detail….

Andrea Mandell and Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY November 19, 2014

It’s a scenario that has now been told by more than a dozen women, all recounting incidents that happened years ago.
….On Sunday, Cosby’s lawyer, John P. Schmitt, issued a statement saying the comedy legend would not “dignify” the “decade-old” claims.

EXCLUSIVE: Ex-NBC employee Frank Scotti claims Bill Cosby paid off women, invited young models to dressing room as he stood guard
Veteran NBC employee Frank Scotti says he helped Bill Cosby deliver thousands of dollars to eight different women in 1989-90 – including Shawn Thompson, whose daughter Autumn Jackson claimed the actor was her dad. The ex-aide also tells the Daily News he stood guard whenever Cosby invited young models to his dressing room, which eventually led him to quitting after years on the job.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS   Sunday, November 23, 2014
Back when Bill Cosby was the king of network television, veteran NBC employee Frank Scotti served as the royal fixer.
When Cosby invited young models into his Brooklyn dressing room, the megastar’s pal stood watch outside the door. When the married Cosby sought a Queens apartment for another pretty face, Scotti arranged the deal.
And when the man behind Fat Albert needed cash disbursed to his flock of single female friends — hey, hey, hey — Scotti became the conduit for payments of up to $2,000 a month….
“He had everybody fooled,” said Scotti in an exclusive interview with the Daily News. “Nobody suspected.”
Scotti came forward last week with his insider’s look at Cosby’s womanizing ways during the magical 1984-92 run of “The Cosby Show.”….
The 90-year-old Scotti said he decided to speak as the drumbeat of sexual abuse allegations against Cosby, 77, grew steadily louder. “I felt sorry for the women,” he told The News.
The Emmy-winning Cosby, NBC’s most bankable star at the time, used Scotti to deliver monthly payouts to eight different women in 1989-90 — including Shawn Thompson, whose daughter Autumn Jackson claimed the actor was her dad.
Frank Scotti says he did “a lot of crazy things” for Bill Cosby, including being a coverup for the actor. Courtesy Frank Scotti Frank Scotti says he did “a lot of crazy things” for Bill Cosby, including being a coverup for the actor.
Cosby, while denying paternity, paid out more than $100,000 to Thompson over the years after their 1974 affair began. Scotti told The News that he believes Cosby was sleeping with all the women who received money.
“I was suspicious that something was going on,” said Scotti. “I suspected that he was having sex with them because the other person he was sending money to (Thompson) he was definitely having sex with….
He recalled Cosby presenting him with “a satchel of money, all $100 bills,” and pressing Scotti to distribute the payments using money orders in his own name.
“I did a lot of crazy things for him,” recalled Scotti. “He was covering himself by having my name on it. It was a coverup. I realized it later.”
Scotti worked as facilities manager at the Brooklyn studio where “The Cosby Show” was originally taped before a live audience….
Cosby lawyer Martin Singer scoffed at Scotti’s claims. “What evidence does he have of Mr. Cosby’s involvement?” Singer said Saturday….

Bill Cosby called a ‘serial rapist’ as yet ANOTHER accuser comes forward
Nov 24th 2014  By RYAN GORMAN   Embattled comedian Bill Cosby is now being called a “serial rapist” as details of his bizarre green room demands are emerging, according to a pair of new reports.
Model Jewel Allison told the New York Daily News that Cosby drugged and forced her to touch his genitals during a dinner. Female staffers with CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” said he forced them to watch him eat curry before every appearance.
“We may be looking at America’s greatest serial rapist that ever got away with this for the longest amount of time,” Allison told the paper. At least 17 women have now accused Cosby of rape and/or sexual assault.
Many of those accusers were reportedly paid off by an NBC staffer.
Allison said the assault occurred in the late 1980s at Cosby’s brownstone on Manhattan’s East Side. The comedian had invited her over on her birthday.
“He said he wanted to help models and actors who were well-educated, who could do something else,” she recalled. “I thought, ‘Wow, this is Bill Cosby.'”
The accused rapist groomed her in a series of phone calls, often complimenting her….

Bill Cosby’s 1980s Co-Star Claims He Sexually Assaulted Her, Paid College Tuition The Wrap   By Jason Hughes 11/24/14   Another woman has come forward with allegations of potential sexual misconduct by Bill Cosby, and this one was a co-star of his for four years. Renita Chaney Hill co-starred alongside Cosby during the 1980s in his “Picture Pages” educational videos….
Bill Cosby was at the height of his power with NBC’s “The Cosby Show” when he encountered Hill. His “Picture Pages” segments filmed in Pittsburgh — the shorts started on a local Pittsburgh children’s show — and he was looking for local talent. Hill, a 15-year-old model and aspiring actress, was recommended by her modeling agency.
The Pittsburgh native spoke to local CBS news station KDKA about the alleged attacks late last week. She told KDKA reporter Ralph Iannotti that Cosby flew her to various cities, from New York to Atlanta….
He defended his ongoing refusal to comment, telling Florida Today before his performance, “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos. People should fact check….

Members of press issue mea culpas on botched Bill Cosby coverage November 25, 2014
Some members of the press who covered Bill Cosby over the past 40 years are now issuing mea culpas, saying they failed to follow up on the many accusations leveled at the comedy legend over the years.
Bill Cosby’s official biographer Mark Whitaker says he was wrong in not addressing the numerous allegations of sexual assault leveled against the comedian. Whitaker’s admission comes on the heels of New York Times columnist David Carr taking to task a number of writers – himself included – for turning a blind eye to the claims….
Cosby, 77, has been publicly accused by at least 18 women of sexually assaulting them or attempting to sexually assault them over the past four decades. His lawyers have denied the claims and called many of the women liars and opportunists. Cosby refused to address the stories in recorded interviews with the Associated Press and National Public Radio. He told the publication Florida Today: “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos.”
But despite the denials, venues on Cosby’s tour are dropping like flies….

Convicted sex offender with links to notorious paedophile group appeared on Jimmy Savile show
Keith Harding, who was convicted of sex offences in 1950s, appeared on Jim’ll Fix It Christmas episode in 1980
Loulla-Mae Eleftheriou-Smith  Monday 17 November 2014
A convicted sex offender with links to a notorious paedophile campaign group appeared as a guest on the Jimmy Savile’s Jim’ll Fix It on a Christmas episode alongside children.
Keith Harding, a British antiques expert who restored items for royalty and who was involved in the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) group, appeared on the show in 1980, BBC News has revealed.
Harding, who died in June this year, was convicted for sex offences nearly thirty years earlier in the 1950s. He was labelled a “schedule 1 offender” after he was found guilty of indecent assault against four children aged eight and nine….
Despite his convictions, Harding was later given the Freedom of the City of London and became a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, which saw him introduced to business and political figures. He later ran a music box museum in Gloucestershire which was regularly visited by children.
BBC News has seen confidential social services reports from 1995 confirming Harding’s involvement with PIE, which campaigned for the age of consent to be reduced to four….
Richard Scorer, who is from the legal firm Slater & Gordon which is representing the near 200 alleged victims of Savile’s sexual abuse, said the information about Harding is “extremely troubling” and that it is “precisely” the kind of allegation that the Government child abuse inquiry should be investigating in detail.
The BBC responded to the news with the statement: “Today’s BBC has appropriate safeguards in place to protect children and young people….

Paedophile group linked to Savile show guest
By Tom Bateman Reporter, Today programme   17 November 2014  A British antiques expert who restored items for royalty was a child abuser involved in a notorious paedophile campaign group, the BBC can reveal. Keith Harding was active in the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE), according to documents seen by the BBC. A former chairman of the British Horological Institute, he appeared alongside Jimmy Savile in a Christmas edition of the BBC’s Jim’ll Fix It. Harding, who died in June, had been convicted of sex offences in the 1950s….
He was convicted of indecent assault against four children aged eight and nine in the late 1950s and was a “schedule 1” offender – meaning his convictions remained on his police file for life.
But he was later given the Freedom of the City of London and became a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, meeting business and political figures at the height of his career.
The clockmaker and music box expert ran a museum regularly visited by children, despite social services being aware 20 years ago of his convictions for child abuse….
Harding’s involvement with PIE, which campaigned for the age of consent to be reduced to four, has never previously come to light. BBC News has seen confidential social services reports from 1995 which confirm Harding’s “PIE involvement”….  The Corporation of London said Harding’s vetting for the Freedom of the City was carried out by his livery company. About 1,800 people receive the honour each year. The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers said Keith Harding did not disclose his offences and was “never involved in the running of the company”.

Charles Napier guilty of historical child abuse  18 November 2014
Charles Napier, a 67-year-old former teacher, has admitted sexually abusing 21 boys between 1967 and 1972. Napier, of Newland in Sherborne, Dorset, pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court in London.
He admitted 28 indecent assault charges and one indecency offence on a child. All his victims were under 16….  The court heard that one boy was indecently assaulted on eight separate occasions between 1969 and 1972…. He faces two further indecent assault charges against two other boys, for which he has yet to enter to a plea. Napier was cleared of one other charge in October due to lack of evidence. Police arrested him in 2013 as part of Operation Cayacos, one of the strands of Scotland Yard’s wider investigation into historical child abuse. That investigation – Operation Fairbank – was launched in 2012 after Labour MP Tom Watson wrote to Scotland Yard about allegations of a paedophile ring linked to Westminster….

Organised child sex abuse ‘widespread in England’, MPs say
17 November 2014  Organised child sex abuse is widespread in England, a report by MPs on the Rotherham exploitation scandal says.
A review of child protection systems across the country has been called for by the Commons’ Communities and Local Government Committee. Its report also said Rotherham Council and Ofsted had “failed” the victims targeted in the town. It suggested the council’s protection policies were “divorced from reality”, enabling the abuse to continue. MPs said, however, the town was “not an outlier” for abuse and all councils needed to review child protection policies. ‘More rigorous inspection’  Their inquiry was prompted by a report by Professor Alexis Jay, which revealed up to 1,400 children were estimated to have been victims of abuse in the South Yorkshire town between 1997 and 2013….

Alexis Jay: Years of missing records mean Rotherham child abuse numbers ‘much higher’ than 1,400  11/17/04  ….Inquiry author Professor Jay said five years of data from Rotherham Council about victims is missing, while South Yorkshire Police was unable to record the scale of the problem before 2013 as it did not categorise child sexual exploitation as a form of crime until last year.
Four years’ worth of meeting minutes discussing child abuse cases between 1999 and 2003 have also disappeared.
A letter Prof Jay sent to the Communities and Local Government Committee has been made public ahead of a report by MPs being published tomorrow. She said a category for recording child sexual exploitation cases was introduced by police only in 2013, meaning the force was ‘unable to quantify the scale of the problem’ prior to last year. While social services did officially recognise the issue from 2001, she said some victims were wrongly classified as being ‘out of control’. Prof Jay said Rotherham Council provided information for only 11 of the 16 years covered by the inquiry.

Rotherham child abuse scandal: Police watchdog to investigate 10 officers over handling of exploitation complaints Adam Withnall Tuesday 18 November 2014 The police watchdog is to investigate 10 officers in South Yorkshire over their handling of the Rotherham sex abuse scandal. The officers were among 13 identified as part of Professor Alexis Jay’s report in late August, which revealed that more than 1,400 children had been subjected to child sexual exploitation in the town from 1997 to 2013.
South Yorkshire Police referred the officers to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) after the Jay report criticised the way agencies in the south Yorkshire town dealt with complaints from teenage girls who said they had been raped and trafficked….

Councils leaving children at sex-abuse risk, says Ofsted   19 November 2014
Vulnerable children in England are at risk of sexual exploitation and abuse because of council failures, the children’s services watchdog has said.
Child sexual exploitation has not been treated as the priority that events in Rotherham and elsewhere suggested it should have been, Ofsted said.
Councils had been too slow to face up to their responsibilities and plans were “under-developed”, Ofsted said.
The Local Government Association said the report was “uncomfortable reading”.
The report – called The sexual exploitation of children: it couldn’t happen here, could it? – was commissioned by Ofsted’s chief inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw.
It comes against a backdrop of allegations, convictions and resignations over organised child abuse and exploitation over sustained periods in locations including Rotherham, Rochdale, Oxford and Telford.
A separate report published by MPs on Tuesday into the Rotherham cases concluded the local authority had “failed” victims targeted in the town.
The MPs also said Rotherham was not an isolated case, child sexual exploitation was “widespread” and “serious”, and questioned the performance of Ofsted itself….

MP ‘told police about VIP paedophile ring’s parties 26 years go’: Labour’s John Mann claims he handed evidence of abuse over to Scotland Yard but investigation was shelved
MP John Mann said he handed evidence of ‘abuse parties’ to police in 1998
Claims case was closed within three months on orders of ‘those at the top’
Police probing reports of murders linked to paedophile ring in 1970 and 80s
By Rebecca Camber for the Daily Mail  17 November 2014
Police were told a Cabinet minister and prominent MPs were abusing children 26 years ago at a block of luxury flats used by politicians but nothing was done, a senior MP revealed yesterday.
Fears of a cover-up of an Establishment paedophile ring deepened last night as an MP said he handed over evidence in 1988 of ‘abuse parties’ at Dolphin Square and other London locations, but an investigation was shelved by Scotland Yard.
Labour’s John Mann said the case was closed within three months on the orders of ‘those at the top’.
His revelation came as it emerged that police are probing disturbing reports of three murders linked to the alleged VIP paedophile ring in the 1970s and 1980s.
A victim has claimed he saw a Conservative MP strangle a 12-year-old boy to death at an ‘abuse party’ in a Central London townhouse around 1980.
The witness, known only as Nick, says a Tory Cabinet minister watched two men kill a second boy in a depraved sexual assault a year later….
As a young councillor investigating corruption in his local borough of Lambeth, Mr Mann uncovered evidence that a Tory Cabinet minister and other serving politicians were sexually abusing children taken from care homes to Dolphin Square, a luxury riverside estate in Pimlico which has been home to dozens of MPs.
He reported his concerns to Lambeth police, but told the Mail: ‘I was told in 1989 by local police that they were very unhappy but they had been instructed to stop the investigation by someone at the top of the police.’….

London police: we believe claims of ‘VIP’ child sex abuse and murder
Scotland Yard says victim’s allegations against prominent political and establishment figures are credible and true    Vikram Dodd    Thursday 18 December 2014
Scotland Yard officers have said they believe allegations that a ring of prominent politicians and members of the establishment abused and terrorised children as young as seven more than 30 years ago and went on to kill three young boys.
Detectives appealed for victims and witnesses to come forward and identified a flat in Dolphin Square, London, near the Houses of Parliament, as a scene of some of the alleged abuse, as well as military premises and other locations across London and the home counties.
So far one victim, known by the pseudonym Nick, has come forward to tell of a decade of abuse he suffered at the hands of people including senior politicians and members of Britain’s establishment, and of three homicides. Police as yet have no bodies, full names of those abused or killed, or exact locations where the killings took place.
But the detective in charge of the investigation pointedly described Nick’s allegations as “true” and said Nick had been abused from 1975 to 1984, between the ages of seven and 16….
in Nick’s case experienced detectives from two teams had concluded his accounts were true. “Nick has been spoken to by experienced officers from the child abuse team and experienced officers from the murder investigation team. They and I believe what Nick is saying is credible and true.”….

Claims that boys were murdered by VIP sex ring are credible and true – police
Metropolitan police launch murder inquiry into role alleged Westminster ring might have had in killings of three boys
Vikram Dodd   Thursday 18 December 2014
Scotland Yard has said claims by a witness that a “VIP” sex abuse ring murdered three boys are “credible and true”. The allegations made by the witness, known by the pseudonym Nick, have triggered a murder investigation. Police said the alleged abuse by a Westminster-based paedophile ring lasted a decade at locations across London and the Home Counties, including military premises….

The sexual exploitation of children: it couldn’t happen here, could it?
19 Nov 2014 Ref: 140175
This thematic inspection was commissioned to evaluate the effectiveness of local authorities’ current response to child sexual exploitation. The report draws on evidence from inspection and case examination in eight local authorities and from the views of children and young people, parents, carers, practitioners and managers.

Communities and Local Government Committee – Third Report
Child sexual exploitation in Rotherham: some issues for local government
37. The Jay Report sets out in chilling detail how the authorities responsible for protecting children in Rotherham against sexual exploitation failed at least 1,400 children. On the basis of this inquiry it is clear that, although there was convincing evidence of organised child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, none of the parts of the system designed to scrutinise or challenge had any perceptible effect in identifying or challenging the prevailing insensitivity to child sexual exploitation within the Council. It was the press which stimulated action. One of the lessons for local government from the Jay Report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham will be the need to improve scrutiny and challenge within council governance.

‘Operation Midland’ investigates Tory MP over boy’s murder  Met also probes slaying of second boy in sex attack in front of former cabinet minister  By Mark Conrad  15 November 2014
Detectives are investigating an allegation that a young boy was murdered by a Conservative MP during a sickening sex attack. The Metropolitan Police Service’s paedophile unit, under ‘Operation Midland’, is also investigating a claim that a second boy was murdered during a depraved sexual assault in the presence of a former Conservative cabinet minister. Exaro, which has been investigating the murder cases over many months, helped to arrange for a key witness to pass his crucial testimony to the Met. We can reveal that, as a result, the police are also investigating the murder of a third boy around 30 years ago by members of a paedophile network of MPs and other VIPs.
….The Met announced on Friday that Operation Midland was investigating historical allegations of child sex abuse and “possible homicide”. The Met said in a statement: “Detectives from the child abuse investigation command are working closely with colleagues from the homicide and major crime command concerning this information, which is being looked at under the name of Operation Midland.”
….He has provided detectives with a graphic, written account of the attack, which he compiled before he contacted them. Nick said that he was picked up at an agreed meeting point and driven into central London. The chauffeur-driven car stopped at a property on the way, he said, to collect the boy who would later be murdered. ….At a meeting with detectives from the Met’s paedophile unit, at which the witness insisted that our reporter was present, Nick passed to them the name of the MP who allegedly murdered the boy, along with a list of other prominent people who, he says, sexually and physically abused him. Nick said that his abusive father supplied him to the paedophile network of VIPs. According to his harrowing account to police, two men whose names he did not know killed a second boy during a savage physical attack in front of a separate MP, a former Conservative cabinet minister. He dates this killing at between a year and 18 months after the strangling of the boy in the town house. ….The ex-minister, said Nick, repeatedly raped him and other boys aged between 10 and 14 at “abuse parties” at Dolphin Square and elsewhere. Both former MPs are alive….

Historical abuse inquiry: Police examine ‘possible homicide’
By Tom Symonds Home Affairs correspondent   14 November 2014  The man says he was first abused by his own father before being “handed over” as a young boy to the group
Child abuse investigations
Police are investigating “possible homicide” linked to what has been described as a paedophile ring involving powerful people in the 1970s and 1980s. The group is alleged to have included senior figures in public life, the military, politics and law enforcement….
A key witness who has spoken to police has told the BBC that he was abused for nine years as a boy….  Speaking anonymously to the BBC but using the name “Nick”, the alleged victim said he had given three days of video-taped evidence to detectives.  His accounts are being assessed as part of Operation Midland, a new Scotland Yard investigation which is under the umbrella of its inquiry into historical abuse, Operation Fairbank. Nick, now in his 40s, says that he was first abused by his own father before being “handed over” as a young boy to the group. “They were very powerful people and they controlled my life for the next nine years,” Nick added. “They created fear that penetrated every part of me, day in day out. You didn’t question what they wanted, you did as they asked without question and the punishments were very severe.” Nick said the group was “very organised” and would arrange for chauffeur-driven cars to pick up boys, sometimes from school, and drive them to “parties” or “sessions” at locations including hotels and private apartments in London and other cities.

Met trawls files on 200 missing boys in murder probe into VIPs ‘Operation Midland’ searches for clues to three alleged killings by paedophile network By Mark Conrad  22 November 2014
Detectives are trawling through files on at least 200 missing children as they try to identify three boys allegedly killed by the ‘Westminster paedophile network’.
Officers who are carrying out the triple-murder investigation under ‘Operation Midland’, made a request to police forces across the UK for files on boys who disappeared and never turned up between 1977 and 1983….
Nick told detectives that he saw a then-serving Conservative MP murder a boy during a sexual assault at a town house in central London around 1980. He said that he witnessed the murder of another boy in front of a former Conservative cabinet minister in 1981 or 1982. And he told of a third killing by unidentified members of the paedophile network in south-west London in 1979….
Nick told how two former Conservative MPs – including an ex-cabinet minister – and other VIPs sexually abused, even raped, him and other boys.
The detective in charge of ‘Operation Fairbank’, Scotland Yard’s wide-ranging investigation into allegations of child sex abuse by MPs and VIPs, asked Exaro to speak to our two witnesses….

SNP activist ‘killed over child sex files’
A FIREBRAND SNP activist who died in mysterious circumstances was to expose a paedophile ring that would have brought down the Government, it was claimed last night.  Sun, November 30, 2014
Willie McRae was said to have discovered child abuse by cabinet ministers and other leading members of the establishment on both sides of the Border. Shortly before his death he was seen photocopying a dossier of names in case something should happen to him.
The copies are understood to have been posted to a number of close associates. Despite a lengthy inquiry, the Sunday Express has been unable to establish whether any copies of the alleged dossier are still in existence.
McRae never went public with his allegations as he was found shot dead in his car off a remote road in Wester Ross on April 6, 1985.
Some maintain he was murdered by the security services over his opposition to plans to dump nuclear waste in Scotland, while others have said he was silenced by drug smugglers.
Significantly, however, his death also fits the timeline of recent claims about Westminster perverts and a massive police cover-up of child abuse and murder in the early 1980s.
His death also came just months after the late Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens handed his own infamous paedophile dossier to then Home Secretary Leon Brittan – only for it to be lost or destroyed by Home Office officials….
Just a few months after McRae’s death, Geoffrey Dickens spoke in the House of Commons about the dangers he had faced due to his attempt to expose powerful paedophiles.
He said: “Honourable Members will understand that where big money is involved and as important names came into my possession so the threats began. First, I received threatening phone calls followed by two burglaries at my London home.
“Then, more seriously, my name appeared on a multi-killer’s hit list.”
Dickens died in 1995 and his investigation was forgotten until the Jimmy Savile scandal led to a renewed interest in historic abuse….

Five Westminster paedophile rings probed by Scotland Yard  Claims emerge of a complex web of child abuse at the heart of government, as leading MP in campaign for justice hands list of 22 names to police  By David Barrett, Home Affairs Correspondent 21 Dec 2014 Police are investigating claims that up to five paedophile rings operated at the heart of Westminster with the involvement of “highly influential” politicians. A Labour MP who has handed a dossier of evidence to Scotland Yard said he now believed the complexity of child abuse networks at the heart of government in the Seventies and Eighties had been seriously underestimated. John Mann, MP for Bassetlaw, said it was “inconceivable” that police would not now arrest and interview some of the politicians he has named in a list handed to detectives earlier this month. Mr Mann, who has spent months sifting evidence from members of the public, met Scotland Yard and handed over evidence on 22 politicians, including three serving MPs and three members of the House of Lords….
“I think the 22 names are all worthy of investigation by the police,” Mr Mann told The Telegraph. “In my opinion the evidence against approximately half of them is very compelling….

Three Current MPs And Three Lords Named In Westminster Paedophile Ring Dossier Handed To Police

Lara O’Reilly      Dec. 22, 2014 Scotland Yard has been handed a document that contains names of 22 high profile figures, including three serving MPs and three members of the House of Lords, alleged to be involved in the suspected Westminster paedophile ring during the 1970s and 1980s, The Daily Telegraph reports. Labour MP John Mann has spent months sifting through hundreds of reports from the public about the historic sex abuse cases and has now handed a dossier to the police that suggests up to five paedophile rings were operating at the heart of UK government, each them involving at least one MP. Of the total number involved — some of whom are now dead and some who are still alive, but not active in Westminster — 14 are Conservative politicians, five are from Labour and three were from other parties. Overall, 13 former ministers are named on the list. Mann told The Sunday Times he also received allegations that an organised criminal gang and a celebrity were involved in the trafficking of young boys to abusers at Dophin Square in London, the block of flats prominent figures allegedly used as a venue for child abuse. He added that he is receiving new information all the time and that there could be many more names added to that list….

There WAS an Establishment cover-up of child abuse as the powerful looked after themselves, says former inquiry chief

Cleanse web of all child abuse images, urges NSPCC chief
Charity boss admits ‘gargantuan task’ but warns anything less than zero-tolerance could produce huge future problem
NSPCC chief Peter Wanless fears a big problem in future unless a war is waged now to eradicate online images of child sex abuse. Thursday 1 January 2015
….Last month, David Cameron told a child abuse summit that a joint specialist unit run by the National Crime Agency and listening post GCHQ will target the most prolific offenders who are using increasingly sophisticated techniques to hide their identities and encrypt and share images online.
Writing in the Daily Mirror, Wanless described the campaign against sexual abuse of children as “one of the biggest challenges facing society”.
He stated that around four in five child abuse images feature a boy or girl under the age of 11 – including babies – and half of them show children being tortured or raped by an adult.
….“Now it has the funding to work pro-actively, instead of waiting for reports to come in, it has identified nearly 28,000 offending web pages – more than twice last year’s total.

Child abuse images must be removed from the internet before viewing them becomes an acceptable part of home life, says NSPCC chief
Peter Wanless wants all online child sex abuse images removed in 5 years
NSPCC chief said it is important to ensure existence of the images do not slide into the dark corners of the acceptable and become part of life
He said we should all feel guilty while abuse images still exist online

He denied 18 counts of rape, two sexual assaults and 12 indecent assaults
Jury convict him of 7 rapes and 11 indecent assaults after deliberations
11 victims aged 13 to 15 and offences took place between 1962 and 1978
Teret played down links to Savile who he once described as ‘a genius’
But prosecutors said the pair preyed on young girl they met at disco
Police officer in case said Teret was a ‘devious, manipulative predator’

By Richard Spillett 5 December 2014
A DJ friend of Jimmy Savile has been convicted of a catalogue of historical sex offences against ‘star-struck’ girls as young as 13.
Ex-Radio Caroline DJ Ray Teret, 73, used his celebrity status in the Manchester club scene in the 1960s and 1970s to prey on many of his victims.
Teret – known as ‘Ugli Ray’ – was mentored by Savile in the early days of his career and was described as following him around ‘like a shadow’, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
Teret, of Altrincham, Greater Manchester, told the jury he had no interest in underage girls, despite a previous conviction for sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in 1999, an offence he continues to deny.
He denied 18 rapes, two other serious sexual assaults, one attempted rape, 12 indecent assaults and one count of indecency with a child.
After more 60 hours of deliberations, he was convicted of seven rapes and 11 indecent assaults. He was cleared of the other charges….

VIP paedophile ring ‘abused teenage boy INSIDE Buckingham Palace and Balmoral Castle’
Nov 29, 2014      By Keir Mudie, Mark Watts
The boy, then just 16, told how he was the victim of “exploitation of the highest order” – the claims could now be the subject of a police investigation….
A teenage boy working at Buckingham Palace revealed he was groomed and sexually abused by a VIP paedophile ring there.
The lad was also assaulted at the Royal Family’s Scottish retreat Balmoral, according to shocking Home Office files, reports the Sunday People.
In a heartbreaking note, the boy – then just 16 – told how he was the victim of “exploitation of the highest order”.
The chilling claims could now be the subject of a police investigation into -historic allegations of child sex abuse in the 1970s and 80s – linked to MPs and powerful figures.
The disturbing account was passed directly to the then Home Secretary Leon Brittan but he ruled it was “not practical” to investigate…..

Police vent fury over cancelled inquiries into VIP child abuse: Officers claim covert investigations were shut down as they closed in on Establishment figures
Serving and former detectives vented their fury on internet chat forum
They claim child sex abuse investigations in 80s and 90s were ‘canned’
Comes as senior MP said he was aware of six police probes being shelved
Cover-up claims will heap pressure on Government and Scotland Yard
By Rebecca Camber, Crime Correspondent For The Daily Mail  15 December 2014
A series of covert police investigations into alleged VIP paedophile rings were shut down as they went ‘to the heart of the Establishment’, officers have claimed.
Serving and former detectives have vented their fury on an internet chat forum, claiming Scotland Yard investigations into child sex abuse were ‘canned’ during the 1980s and 1990s as they closed in on powerful figures, some of whom were said to be at ‘cabinet level’.
It comes as a senior MP said he was aware of six police probes into child sex abuse being shelved, five of which were run by Scotland Yard.
‘This is about kids being raped by those in power that included politicians of all sorts. It goes to the very heart of our Establishment.
‘There is very clear evidence that the general nature of the allegations are true.
‘There are enough officers on this site who have mentioned paedophile ops involving high-profile politicians being stopped at the eleventh hour.’
Labour MP John Mann yesterday admitted that he was aware of six inquiries which were shelved for ‘no good reason’
A former detective constable said: ‘In the 90s I uncovered a middle class paedo ring at [a police station in east London]. It linked into a massive UC [undercover] paedo job which was being run by [a named detective sergeant].
‘The UC who shall remain nameless found that it went to cabinet level and four years of work was pulled overnight.’
Some of the officers also claimed there was a secret file dating back to the 1960s on a celebrity recently linked to historic abuse.
One civil servant, who said he had signed the Official Secrets Act, wrote: ‘The cover up began in 1985 when operations were closed for no apparent reason except that prominent persons were allegedly involved and again in 1990 and again over the North Wales child abuse and successive governments have continued the practice.’ The forum is open only to those who have worked in the Metropolitan Police or closely alongside the force.

Police investigating 718 cases of child abuse in Northern Ireland   And calls to local NSPCC helpline show sharp rise   524 individuals have contacted the inquiry into historical abuse.  By Adrian Rutherford – 30 December 2014   Officers are probing 718 “live” cases where the victim was aged under 18. The figure is thought to include a number of historic allegations relating to children’s care homes. It comes as a leading charity revealed it has seen the number of calls to a specialist helpline jump by almost a quar
The issue of child abuse has been in the headlines throughout 2014. A State inquiry into historical abuse in Northern Ireland, chaired by retired judge Sir Anthony Hart, opened in January. The inquiry, which has so far been contacted by 524 individuals, has already heard harrowing testimonies from victims. And in November a report estimated that up to 145 children were at significant risk of exploitation in Northern Ireland….
The paper by Professor Kathleen Marshall revealed paramilitaries were using fear and intimidation to sexually exploit children.  It also uncovered cases involving the military, revealing that soldiers had been disciplined for smuggling girls into two different barracks in the last three years….
The Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry (HIA) is examining allegations of child abuse in children’s homes and other residential institutions between 1922 and 1995. It is the biggest child abuse public inquiry ever held in the UK, having been contacted by 524 people who said they were abused in childhood. Most complainants are from the UK, 65 are from Australia and 26 from the Irish Republic. The HIA inquiry was set up by the First and Deputy First Minister in May 2012. Its aim is to establish if there were “systemic failings by institutions or the state in their duties towards those children in their care”.

Rape victim aged 5 writes to police who failed her and asks: ‘Why did you let me down?’
Nov 18, 2014    By Jessica Best The little girl, who is still waiting for justice, told officers:  ‘Something very bad happened and it was your job to make sure he was punished. But you didn’t do your job’….
A five-year-old rape victim has written a devastating letter to police saying officers had “let her down” over the way they investigated the crime. The youngster was raped by the 12-year-old son of a family friend in 2011, but more than three years later she and her family are still waiting for justice. The case was brought to light after it emerged the little girl, now aged eight, had written a heartbreaking letter to officers about what had happened to her. Today, the police and crime commissioner for Essex has said he is “deeply sorry” for how his force failed the child….
The boy admitted the offence in a recorded interview and was given a youth caution, but officers wrongly claimed that they had reported the case to the Crown Prosecution Service, failed to have the rapist’s name added to the Sex Offenders Register and neglected to take fingerprints, DNA samples or photographs, the newspaper said. The little girl’s letter went on: “Did you do this on purpose because he was 12? I trusted you to push me up but instead you pushed me down. “I thought police are ment [sic] to be good and catch the bad people but you didn’t. So you are in the wrong and should know better.”
Crime Commisioner Nick Alston….said he became aware of the case in 2013 and immediately discussed the matter with the deputy chief and chief constable.
In April last year, the force referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and disciplinary action was taken against a number of officers.

Westminster child abuse claims: what do we know? Police are investigating possible murders linked to Elm Guest House in south-west London after claims of a cover-up Matthew Weaver Wednesday 19 November 2014   What do we know about politicians and child abuse at Westminster?
A number of allegations have been made. So far the only politician to have been implicated is the Liberal MP Cyril Smith, who died in 2010, but other unnamed politicians were also alleged to have been involved in a Westminster paedophile ring. Smith is alleged to have abused boys at Knowl View residential school in Rochdale and at Elm Guest House, in Barnes in south-west London, in the 1970s and 80s. Greater Manchester police are investigating allegations of abuse by Smith at Knowl View, where Smith was a governor. Other MPs were said to have attended the Elm Guest House. After claims made by the Labour MP Tom Watson in 2012, the Metropolitan police launched Operation Fairbank into child abuse at the guesthouse. Watson said there was “clear intelligence suggesting a powerful paedophile network linked to parliament and No 10”.
A dossier of evidence of an alleged paedophile ring, involving several MPs, including Smith, and other public figures, was handed to the Home Office in 1983, by the Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens, who died in 1995. The 40-page dossier has since been destroyed or lost, according to a Home Office review. The Crown Prosecution Service has conceded that Smith should have been prosecuted after rejecting claims against him in 1970, 1998 and 1999.
What happened at Elm Guest House?
At least three MPs were reported to have been questioned in 1982 after a police raid on the guesthouse. It was reported at the time that it was being used as a brothel where children as young as 10 were abused. Two children living in the house were taken into care. The guesthouse was reported to have been used as a brothel for two years before it was raided. Officers found whips, chains and ropes. “They catered for every kind of perversion,” an officer told the News of World at the time. The owners of Elm Guest House, Haroon and Carol Kasir, were subsequently convicted of running a brothel….

Children ‘washed in toilets’ at Birmingham care home  By David Lumb BBC News, West Midlands  5 January 2015   Ex-residents of a children’s home have described being beaten, made to wash in toilet water and sleep on floors.  Up to eight people reported cruelty at St Athan Croft in Castle Vale, Birmingham, dating back to the 1970s and 80s, the BBC understands.  In February 2014 police began investigating claims against former live-in house parents Patricia and James Connolly. However, officers could not take action because the couple are dead.
One former resident said she was one of about 16 children living in three rooms at the home.
The woman, who was at St Athan Croft in the mid-70s and stayed until she was aged 13, told the BBC children were regularly beaten, hit with sticks and thrown in cold water in the early hours of the morning as punishments….

Review into shocking allegations care home gave girls ‘cocktail of drugs’ which led to birth defects 12 January 2015
Twenty years on from allegations of horrific abuse at a Church of England care home, which include pumping children full of experimental drugs, an investigation is underway into exactly what happened there. The church has launched a review into Kendall House, a care home in Kent, where a number of residents have so far come forward to claim they have had children with birth defects as a result. Many of the women say they are suffering from serious health problems themselves after they were “constantly overdosed” with tranquilisers, antipsychotics and drugs used to treat conditions such as Parkinson’s disease….
Her records show she was overmedicated more than 1,200 times. Many of the women, including Teresa, say they were also sexually abused at the home, sometimes while they were unconscious from the drugs….
Other Kendall House girls say their children have been born with brain tumours, heart defects and learning disabilities….
More than 20 women have since received financial compensation from the church over sexual abuse they suffered but there has been no public acknowledgement of the drugs which were allegedly forced on them or an apology.

Sasha Wass QC, prosecutor in Rolf Harris trial, to lead island sex abuse inquiry
Sasha Wass QC, has been brought into to head an investigation into an alleged cover-up on St Helena and Ascension  Paul Peachey crime correspondent  Thursday 20 November 2014
….Sasha Wass QC, has been brought in after a review of child safety on St Helena and Ascension – two tiny and remote islands in the South Atlantic with a combined population of some 5,500 – revealed that a number of paedophiles had escaped prosecution amid claims of police incompetence and corruption.
The Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, said yesterday that Ms Wass would travel to the island to investigate a series of claims by whistleblowers against senior police, some brought over from Britain to run the tiny force.
Social workers said they raised concerns about a paedophile officer but were snubbed and told not to rock the boat and “enjoy the view” on St Helena, famous as the island prison of Napoleon.
The announcement by Mr Hammond came a week before the start of what could be a protracted employment tribunal starting in London brought by two of the whistleblowers who say they were hounded off the island. One of them had her home searched by police and was threatened with prosecution for perjury.
They have said that entrenched abuse on the island was worse than the scandal on Pitcairn, another isolated and tiny British territory, where six men jailed for child sex abuse in 2004.
….Experts from the child protection charity, the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, said in a report there had been a “malaise” in the upper ranks of the police force. It criticised its handling of child sex abuse allegations and highlighted how victims were often castigated when coming forward to make claims. It said there were “a number of ‘serial’ offenders, a number of ‘serial’ victims, and a number of women whose children were very much at risk of repeat victimisation.”

Foreign Office ‘lied over endemic child abuse’ Tom Harper, Home Affairs Correspondent  4 January 2015 Martin Warsama says sexual exploitation of children is widespread on St Helena
THE FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE (FCO) has been accused of lying to the UN over “endemic” child sex abuse in the British overseas territory of St Helena to cover up allegations, one of which was that a police officer raped a four-year-old girl.
Child protection whistleblowers who worked on the remote South Atlantic island are now suing the FCO and the Department for International Development, claiming that civil servants suppressed the reality of life on St Helena.
A draft report on their allegations, commissioned by the government, found the island of 4,000 people, which relies on a £20m annual grant from Whitehall, had a “persistent” culture of abusing teenage girls and a “cultural acceptance of the premature sexualisation of children”. Girls were subjected to “violent and brutal” attacks….

Ministry of Defence pays out £2 million to settle cadets’ sex abuse claims
One case involved a teenage girl who was sexually abused by her adult cadet instructor and gave birth to her abuser’s child  By Bill Gardner 28 Dec 2014  The Ministry of Defence has paid out more than £2 million in out-of-court settlements in the last three years as a result of claims that young cadets were sexually abused.
The cases includes allegations that teenage boys performed ritual sex acts on younger cadets, and a cadet who was raped by an instructor and gave birth to her abuser’s child….
Some of the settlements are understood to relate to historic abuse, perpetrated against adults when they were children. Others relate to abuse carried out in recent years….

A man of healing, a saga of suffering  Allegations of child sex abuse are complicated by a legal maze in Indian country  December 28, 2014
….The sexual abuse of children has long been regarded as a rampant if largely unspoken problem on Native American reservations, in part a legacy of a boarding school system that was designed to assimilate students and subjected them to widespread sexual, emotional and physical abuse, according to Native leaders and prosecutors.
….Child sexual abuse on the reservations is at the root of the many problems that follow for Indian children — depression, alcohol and drug abuse, juvenile detention and suicide, according to Indian country experts. The challenge of getting victims to speak out — common in child sexual assault cases anywhere — is exacerbated by the close-knit nature of the remote communities where they live.
The U.S. attorney for South Dakota, Brendan V. Johnson, said that sexual violence is one of the most common criminal offenses on the nine reservations where he shares criminal jurisdiction with the tribes, but it is extremely difficult to bring charges.
“Victims are placed under tremendous pressure by family members and friends to recant their stories,” said Johnson, who declined to discuss details of the Chipps case. “The complaint will come in, the victims will be forensically interviewed and will provide us with specific facts about what happened and then, months later, will recant their stories.”
….Many studies tie sexual abuse to the intergenerational trauma that began in the secular and church-run boarding schools that Indian children were required to attend. Court documents and lawsuit settlements reveal how the boarding schools, especially in places like South Dakota, were centers of widespread sexual, emotional and physical abuse.
Many of the children who attended the schools are the parents and grandparents of today’s Native American children. “There were individuals who were willing to move out in the middle of nowhere in order to work at boarding schools with these children and there were some who had a pre-disposition for child sex abuse and many of the children were sexually abused,” Thompson said. “Unfortunately, that has become a cycle that was passed down from generation to generation. You compound that with the poverty, socioeconomic and isolation issues in Indian country and unfortunately that cycle has not yet been broken.”….

Jehovah’s Witnesses under fire from former congregants who say child sex abuse was hushed
$10.5 Million Lawsuit Against Jehovah’s Witnesses Organizations Velicia Alston, who says she was molested as a child, wants to change the way Jehovah’s Witnesses’ leadership responds to child sexual abuse.
By Aimee Green December 01, 2014
Two people who say that as children they were sexually abused by a leader in a Hillsboro Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation filed a $10.5 million lawsuit Monday – among the first in Oregon to accuse the religious organization of hiding decades of sexual abuse.
Attorneys for Velicia Alston, 39, and an unnamed man said the Jehovah’s Witnesses leadership continues to cover up sexual abuse against children by leaders. They say it is more than a decade behind other organizations, such as the Catholic Church, that have been forced to address their problems through many years of civil litigation
“There is a crisis of silence in the Jehovah’s Witness organization,” said Irwin Zalkin, one of several attorneys representing Alston and the man. Zalkin described the religious organization as “more concerned about protecting its reputation than it is about protecting its children.”
For example, Zalkin said the seven men who make up the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Governing Body have a policy requiring a confession from the perpetrator or two eyewitnesses to the abuse before leaders will take any action.
“Even if they do disfellowship a perpetrator, they don’t tell the congregation why,” Zalkin said during a news conference Monday in Portland. “No one but the elders can ever know that there is a child predator lurking in that congregation.”
Zalkin said Jehovah’s Witnesses leaders don’t call police. Rather, Zalkin said, they take the position that although Oregon law defines clergy as mandatory reporters of child abuse, they don’t need to report the abuse because it was a privileged religious communication…..

See Haunting Photos of the Sites of Child Abuse  Richard Conway 12/1/14   The very ordinariness of both the context and the location of child abuse in Ireland struck photographer Kim Haughton as profoundly disturbing.
In a damning 2009 report, Ireland’s independently-run Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse – which spent nine years investigating thousands of allegations of abuse at religious-run institutions – spoke of a culture of “endemic sexual abuse” in the country’s Catholic boys’ schools and of the “deferential and submissive attitude” of the Irish state towards the religious orders who ran them.
What emerged from the investigation, and from a separate Dublin-specific inquiry concluded the same year, was that institutional child abuse was widespread and that it had occurred not only in schools, but in many places where young people were in the care of religious orders. The commissions also revealed that very often when children reported the abuse, they were largely ignored and even punished, with many of the adult perpetrators being relocated to new parishes by church officials. The state, too, had willfully turned a blind eye….

John Allen jailed for child abuse at Wrexham care homes
1 December 2014  A paedophile who ran children’s homes in Wrexham has been jailed for life for sexually assaulting youngsters in a campaign of abuse spanning decades.  John Allen, 73, of Needham Market, Suffolk, had denied 40 counts of sex abuse against 19 boys and one girl in the late 1960s up to the early 1990s. He was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Monday after being convicted of 33 charges last week. The judge ordered Allen must serve a minimum of 11 years in jail….
He set up the Bryn Alyn Community, which was to become one of the UK’s largest providers of residential care, providing accommodation for children sent from about a dozen local authorities.
During the trial, which began in early October, the jury was told of Allen’s previous conviction in 1995 for six counts of indecent assault involving repeated abuse of six boys dating from the 1970s….
In an interview with BBC Wales, he explained how Allen had groomed him and gave him gifts before he abused him.  During sentencing, Mr Justice Openshaw said that the system of supervising and monitoring of Bryn Alyn was at the time wholly inadequate, boys did not complain because they knew it was quite pointless to do so, and that “gave the defendant the belief that he was untouchable”.
He went on to say that there was a common theme of Allen targeting boys who were more susceptible to grooming with payments and presents given as “inducements” or to “keep them quiet”….

Sexual exploitation victim ‘trafficked to more than 200 men’   29 November 2014   A woman says she was trafficked to more than 200 men for sex from the age of 14.  The victim from Shropshire, who wanted to remain anonymous, told BBC WM most attacks happened in Stratford Road and Ladypool Road in Birmingham….  Earlier this week a Birmingham City Council report said at least 132 children in the city were suffering from or were vulnerable to sexual exploitation.
The anonymous victim said she was taken to locations across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
She said she met the traffickers through a group of younger men who would take her to cafes to meet customers and discuss payments.
She said the men who abused here were generally older – the oldest was in his 80s – and that if she did not comply with the traffickers’ demands, she was beaten with a metal bar or belt….

Briton Simon Harris guilty of child sex abuse in Kenya
16 December 2014  The BBC’s Phil Mackie: “Harris would drive into the town of Gilgil and offer street children food and money to go home with him”  A British charity boss who preyed on vulnerable Kenyan street children has been found guilty of sexual abuse. Simon Harris was convicted of eight charges of indecent and sexual assault on youngsters in Gilgil, and four of possessing indecent images of children. Birmingham Crown Court heard he would lure boys to his house in Kenya by offering them food, shelter and money.    Harris, 55, of Pudleston, near Leominster, Herefordshire was cleared of 10 further charges, including rape….
Before the trial, Harris also admitted six offences of indecent assault against three boys aged between 13 and 14, when he was a teacher at Shebbear College, Devon in the 1980s….
Harris had faced 23 charges in total, including 18 allegations relating to assaults….
The offences in Kenya were committed while Harris was running a gap year charity he set up in the East African country, in the 1990s….
Harris was head of the gap-year charity VAE, which placed British volunteers in Kenyan schools….  It also emerged during the trial Harris had spent 15 months in a British jail for possession of indecent images of children following a 2009 conviction….

Slavery levels in UK ‘higher than thought’   29 November 2014
There could be between 10,000 and 13,000 victims of slavery in the UK, higher than previous figures, analysis for the Home Office suggests. Modern slavery victims are said to include women forced into prostitution, “imprisoned” domestic staff and workers in fields, factories and fishing boats. The figure for 2013 is the first time the government has made an official estimate of the scale of the problem….  Data from the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Human Trafficking Centre last year put the number of slavery victims in the UK at 2,744….

Attorney: L.A. schools pay ‘largest’ public settlement for child abuse at $139 million
By Michael Martinez, CNN Fri November 21, 2014  Los Angeles (CNN) — The Los Angeles public school district will pay more than $139.2 million to the families of 81 children allegedly abused by an elementary teacher now serving a prison sentence for lewd conduct, officials said Friday. John Manly, one of the plaintiffs’ attorney, called the amount “the largest settlement in the history of the United States against a public entity involving child abuse.”  The settlement comes after the district earlier paid $30 million to settle 63 other students’ claims alleging they were victims of sexually lewd acts by Mark Berndt of Miramonte Elementary.  A teacher for 30 years, Berndt is now serving a 25-year prison sentence for putting pupils in bondage, and then photographing them with semen-filled spoons held at their mouths and 3-inch cockroaches crawling across their faces….
Manly contended there were “two perpetrators:” Berndt and “those in successive (school) administrations from 1983 to the present who ignored and in some instances actively concealed what he was doing.”….
Berndt had pleaded no contest to felony lewd acts on 23 children. The scandal led to more than 100 students suing the district, claiming that they, too, were victims….

Sandusky’s Son Speaks About Abusive Childhood December 5, 2014 By Jim Melwert  PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — One of the most prominent victims from one of the most prominent sexual abuse cases in recent memory was a keynote speaker today at a conference on investigating child sex abuse. Matt Sandusky, the adopted son of Jerry Sandusky, and also one his many victims, shared his story with a group of hundreds — prosecutors, investigators, social workers, and therapists….
He also talked about how hard it was for him to coming forward, knowing he’d lose his adoptive family, and the anger directed at him and his children.

Sandusky’s adopted son speaks out on abusive childhood AP DEC 05, 2014  PHILADELPHIA — Jerry Sandusky’s adopted son Matt spoke out Friday about his two abusive fathers and called sexual abuse the ”single worst health epidemic that children face.”  Matt Sandusky, speaking to about 200 people at a conference in Philadelphia on child abuse intervention, said the public must work harder to end child sexual abuse.
”I will work my butt off to create a society that is safe and caring for survivors of child sexual abuse,” he said. ” … This is the single worst health epidemic that children face.”
Sandusky, who founded a nonprofit to raise awareness about child sexual abuse, spoke of his introduction to abuse at a young age….
Matt Sandusky met Jerry Sandusky through the former Penn State assistant football coach’s youth charity. He said perpetrators ”groom” their family and victims….

Paterno’s 111 vacated Penn State wins restored in Sandusky suit deal AP JAN 16, 2015  STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The NCAA agreed Friday to restore 112 football wins it had stripped from Penn State — all but one of which belonged to Joe Paterno — in the Jerry Sandusky child-molestation scandal and to reinstate the venerated late coach as the winningest in major college football history.
The agreement, swiftly approved by the boards of the NCAA and the university after intermittent talks heated up this week, lifts the last of the sanctions imposed in 2012 and wipes away the black marks that had tainted one of the nation’s most celebrated college athletics programs.
After more than two years of criticism that the NCAA had overstepped its authority, officials with college sports’ governing body did not back down. Instead, they said they were focused on ending litigation that had held up distribution of the university’s $60 million fine to fund child abuse-prevention programs.
Before the deal, the NCAA had agreed last year to eliminate some of the sanctions, including reinstating Penn State’s full complement of scholarships and letting the team participate in post-season play.
Friday’s agreement threw out the rest of the sanctions, including eliminating a five-year probation period and scholarship and transfer rules, and restoring the wins that had been wiped out. It also bowed to Pennsylvania officials’ desire to see the $60 million fine spent in Pennsylvania, not spread to abuse-prevention programs around the nation….
Freeh’s report accused Paterno and other top Penn State officials of burying child sex-abuse allegations against Sandusky to avoid bad publicity. The report portrayed the Hall of Fame coach as more deeply involved in the scandal than previously thought.
The alleged cover-up by Paterno, then-university President Graham Spanier and two other Penn State administrators allowed Sandusky to prey on other boys for years, it said.
Paterno was never charged with a crime, although Spanier and the two other former administrators continue to fight charges in court….
Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts and is now serving a 30- to 60-year prison sentence.

Joe Paterno wins again, but where do Jerry Sandusky’s victims go to get their innocence back?
By Kevin Scarbinsky January 16, 2015   Now that that’s settled, now that the NCAA has caved for the final time on its attempt to do the right thing in the wake of the worst scandal in major college football history, now that the late Joe Paterno has had his precious vacated victories restored, a question:
Where do Jerry Sandusky’s victims go to get their innocence back?
That is what the whole sordid Penn State mess was about, wasn’t it? A long-time defensive coordinator, while he was doing that job and afterward, roamed the town, the campus and the football building, preying on children and sexually abusing them.
There’s plenty of reason to believe that some of the most powerful men on campus, from the AD to the president to Paterno himself, had plenty of reason to suspect that Sandusky was a child molester but did far too little to put a stop to him….

FSU’s Probe Into Jameis Winston Rape Allegations Draws Lawsuit From Accuser
Tyler Kingkade  01/07/2015   A former Florida State University student who accused star college quarterback Jameis Winston of raping her filed a federal lawsuit against the school on Wednesday over its handling of her case.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe, blames FSU for making deliberate decisions to avoid its Title IX obligations to promptly investigate the alleged rape from December 2012, according to a copy of the suit obtained by The Huffington Post. The “concealment” of the student sexual assault, the suit claims, was done to “to protect the football program.”
….”After a year of selective news leaks and distorted coverage, Florida State looks forward to addressing these meritless allegations in court,” the statement said. “Evidence will show that through its confidential Victim Advocate Program, FSU did everything the plaintiff asked for and that the assertions FSU shirked its Title IX obligations are false.”
A federal investigation into FSU’s management of Winston’s case is ongoing.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges that the female student faced harassment on and off campus as a consequence of delays in FSU’s investigation. Although the woman has not been publicly named by any mainstream media outlet, The Huffington Post found many instances of websites and blogs outing and mocking the accuser, as well as spreading her personal information. This led the student to drop out of college in November 2013, the lawsuit claims.
In December 2013, State Attorney Willie Meggs announced Winston wouldn’t be charged with a crime, and last month, a university hearing cleared the football star of violating the student code of conduct.
But the suit claims the university’s athletics department “chose to violate school policy and not report to the FSU administration” when it became aware of the rape allegations….

Ian Watkins’ ex-lover found not guilty over child abuse images  Joanne Mjadzelics cleared of possessing indecent images after arguing she was trying to bring Lostprophets singer to justice
A woman who repeatedly warned police about the paedophile activities of the disgraced rock star Ian Watkins, but was herself prosecuted after trying to entrap him, claimed children could have been saved from abuse if she had been believed.
Joanne Mjadzelics, 39, was cleared by a jury on Wednesday of sharing explicit and shocking images of children with the former Lostprophets singer after explaining that she had played along with Watkins to prove that he was a dangerous serial abuser.
During her trial at Cardiff crown court she said she first went to police four years before Watkins was finally arrested for a string of offences against children and attempting to rape a baby but was not believed and instead found herself the victim of what she called a “vicious” prosecution….
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is examining how South Wales police and two other forces investigated Watkins, who is serving 35 years for his crimes, amid concerns that he might have got away with his offending for years because he was famous, rich and powerful….

Joanne Mjadzelics shared child abuse images with Ian Watkins    5 January 2015
A woman has gone on trial accused of encouraging rock singer Ian Watkins to distribute indecent images of children. Joanne Mjadzelics, 39, from Doncaster, is accused of possessing and distributing indecent images. She claimed she encouraged the Lostprophets singer – serving 35 years for child sex offences – to send the images in order to expose his criminality, Cardiff Crown Court heard. She denies seven charges in relation to images. Ms Mjadzelics was arrested following Watkins’ guilty pleas in November 2013.
Sex tape
The jury heard excerpts from a sex tape from 2008 where Watkins and Ms Mjadzelics, who had a relationship, discussed their desire to abuse very young children together. The video was entitled “Jo paedo talk Cardiff” and prosecutor Jim Davies told the jury the pair discussed their desire to abuse children. They also heard Ms Mjadzelics had said in the video she wanted to kidnap and rape children….

‘I was a five-year-old sex slave’: Florida man reveals childhood of being ‘trafficked by his FAMILY, who made thousands from clients that choked and raped him’
Jerome Elam said he was forced into sexual slavery as a young boy
Says he was beaten and abused, and forced to appear in pornography
Described to news station how doctors and lawyers paid to abuse him
Said he is sharing his story to give hope to other abused children
By Kieran Corcoran For  10 January 2015
A man has revealed his horrifying childhood as a five-year-old sex slave in Florida, where he says a member of his family made thousands forcing him to indulge the pedophile desires of pillars of the local community.
Jerome Elam said that he was taken advantage of by a relative, who kept him in servitude for seven years and made him participate in child pornography and take drugs.
He said that clients of his trafficker would beat, choke and rape him – and punish him severely whenever he tried to escape his life of abuse.
Elam told local station WTLV how he was dragged in and out of school in Jacksonville to fulfill the whims of his relatives’ clients, whom he claims were often doctors and lawyers with a ‘darker side’….
In a first-person account for the Communities Digital News website, Elam told how he was subjected to beatings and rape by each member of a pedophile ring before he was turned over to the clients.
He wrote: ‘My indoctrination to the “group,” as they often referred to themselves in private, consisted of being raped and beaten by each member….
According to child abuse experts, pimps can make as much as $200,000 per year from a single child, and often have as many as six under their control at any given time….

Local man tells horrifying tales of child sex slavery
Heather Crawford, WTLV  May 31, 2014
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Human sex trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States according the Department of Justice, and it’s happening right here on the First Coast. Some of the victims are young children forced to have sex dozens of times a day….

For victims of child sex trafficking there is no Christmas
by Jerome Elam – Jan 9, 2015
….My mother had married a man who forced me into being a sexual slave as the property of the pedophile ring that he belonged to. My fate had been sealed so long ago as I was ushered into this world and set adrift on a sea of dysfunction, a rudderless ship whose sails rose and fell at the whim of my mother’s addiction to chaos.
While many children were filled with the glow of the holiday spirit and the expectation of dreams fulfilled on Christmas morning, my childhood was filled with hopeless desperation. I had seen violence in my life and most often times been the target, but seeing the bottomless evil that dwelled in the eyes of my traffickers scared me down to the depths of my very soul.
….My stepfather and the pedophile ring he belonged to were on a whole different level. We are often told stories about evil but most of us are oblivious to its presence as it silently moves among us. My indoctrination to the “group,” as they often referred to themselves in private, consisted of being raped and beaten by each member. Many of the members enjoyed inflicting pain on innocent children as they were tied up, but several were as unhinged as a barn door in a tornado. Children were choked unconscious to satisfy the twisted sexual appetites of a select few of the members, and many clients of the trafficking ring also shared this sick practice.
Those who employed the “services” of my traffickers were pillars of society and the type of people who would sit beside you in church. There was a transformation that took place when I was forced into a room with them.
….The Department of Justice estimates that between 100,000 and 300,000 children are at risk of being trafficked in this country right now. Human trafficking is a $9.5 billion a year business in the U.S. according to the United Nations, and within the first forty-eight hours of leaving home a runaway child will be approached by a human trafficker. Human trafficking is second only to the drug trade as the largest criminal enterprise, according to the Justice Department. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reports that pimps can make from $150,000 to $200,000 per year for each child. The NCMEC also reports a pimp has an average of four children, and the Polaris Project, an anti-trafficking non profit, reports the average victim of sex trafficking is forced to have sex 20-48 times a day.

Ritual Abuse and Mind Control

Dundee charity reveals terrible toll of ritual sexual abuse By Dave Lord, 16 November 2014
A Scottish charity has warned that local children as young as five are suffering systematic and brutal sexual abuse. Izzy’s Promise fear that many cases, some of which are carried out as part of gruesome rituals, are going unreported due to a pervasive culture of fear. The charity, which is based in Dundee, said it receives numerous calls relating to grotesque sexual crimes. Project co-ordinator, Joseph Lumbasi, told The Courier many young victims are too terrified to speak out at the time of their horrific ordeals, instead reporting abuse only when they reach adulthood. Mr Lumbasi also claimed that some of the calls received by the charity relate to violent ceremonies and ritual abuse. He said that traditional religious festival periods, including Easter and Christmas, see the highest frequency of such cases….

Scots orphans used in ‘military experiments’  HOLYROOD’S child abuse inquiry will hear claims that British military scientists conducted drug tests on orphans in Scottish mental hospitals.  By Ben Borland Sun, December 21, 2014
The allegations centre on at least four institutions where thousands of children are said to have been experimented upon in conditions described as “like something out of Auschwitz”.
It is alleged that Porton Down, the top secret military facility in Wiltshire, was involved in trialling drugs for use in the Cold War on youngsters who were regarded as “feeble-minded”.
One survivor told this newspaper he has obtained written and video evidence that he will pass to the public inquiry into historical abuse of children in care when it begins next year.
The man, now in his 50s, has been advised by lawyers to conceal his identity for his own safety until his full submission can be lodged at the inquiry announced by Scottish Education Secretary Angela Constance.
However, he was willing to divulge some of his intended testimony about the treatment he and others suffered. He said: “Six and seven year olds were tied to racks and given electric shocks.
“I was incarcerated with orderlies armed with rubber coshes. “We were imprisoned, experimented upon, lobotomies, you name it, they did it. “I was there, I saw it with my own eyes. We were imprisoned, experimented upon, lobotomies, you name it, they did it….
Lennox Castle Hospital, near Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, is one of four Scottish institutions alleged to have been involved. The witness believes there may have been as many as 3,500 children who were involved in the Porton Down testing programme over the years. He said: “They were using orphans to experiment with drugs for the Cold War.   “The drug programme ran from 1948 to 1982. “I believe this happened throughout the UK but I’m referring to Scotland. “I have this evidence, on paper and on film, and I will hand it to the public inquiry.
….Six years ago hundreds of veterans who ‘volunteered’ to take part in tests at Porton Down were offered £3million in compensation.
They were exposed to nerve agents, such as sarin gas, and hallucinogens, such as LSD.
In the most infamous case, from 1953, Ronald Maddison took part in a trial of what he believed was a cold remedy, but died within an hour of having sarin dabbed on his arm.
Other Porton Down experiments included spraying bacteria over the south coast of England and dropping cancer-causing particles from planes. And Gruinard Island in Wester Ross had to be sealed off for almost 50 years after it was contaminated with anthrax during the Second World War. Porton Down is the home of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, an agency of the Ministry of Defence. A spokeswoman said: “We are not aware of any tests involving children at Portown Down and have seen absolutely no evidence to back up these claims.”

Supermodel Ruslana Korshunova had joined ‘dehumanising’ cult before jumping to death, author claims November 18, 2014 ….Ruslana Korshunova, 20, who graced the cover of British Vogue and had been signed to top agency IMG, had allegedly joined the Moscow-based Rose of the World cult before her death.
Journalist Peter Pomerantsev claims in his new book that Korshunova had been undergoing “dehumanising” treatment during training sessions with the bizarre sect.
….During the sessions, life coaches humiliated trainees and blamed them for the negative aspects of their life, the New York Daily News reports.
In one case, a rape victim who was blamed for her own assault and accused of self-pity,
In his book Nothing Is True And Everything Is Possible, Pomerantsev describes Korshunova as a victim of the new Russia.
….Thrust into a world of fame, money, power and oligarchs at the age of just 16, the stunning teen was wooed by a Moscow-based tycoon who eventually dumped her.
After a second failed relationship with another Russian businessman, the beautiful model’s world began to crumble, the author says.
Suffering from insomnia and losing weight, Korshunova’s modelling career — which had taken her to London, Paris and Milan — began to suffer and bookings dried up.
It was then that she fell into the clutches of the Moscow-based Rose of the World cult, Pomerantsev says….

Children first: the child protection system in England – Education Committee Contents
3  Older children  Vulnerability of older children
125. Ritual abuse related to accusations of witchcraft and spirit possession occurs in England amongst some communities of African origin. Some child deaths have included elements of ritual abuse, including that of Victoria Climbié and of a headless torso discovered in the Thames.[190] The latest high profile case involving Kristy Bamu and the conviction of his relatives has reignited publicity around the issue. This type of abuse is often linked to a faith setting (church or mosque). Accusations of witchcraft may be made by the church (for example, the pastor) who also professes the solution, usually in the form of a deliverance or exorcism. Once a child has been identified as a witch, often by family members or by a faith leader, different forms of abuse may occur….
126. ECPAT reported in October 2011 that over the last four years, at least 400 African children have been abducted and trafficked into the UK, some for the purpose of ‘juju’ blood rituals. Testimonies from some of the children have described how witch-doctors extracted their blood by force for use in ritual healings.[191] Other estimates about the extent of ritual abuse in the UK are sketchy. Research for the then Department for Children, Schools and Families in 2006 reviewed 74 cases of child abuse which were suspected of connection to spirit possession and witchcraft between 2000 and 2005, and found clear-cut evidence of ritual abuse in 38 of those cases (concerning 47 children). Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) gave evidence that when a victim of ritual abuse is identified, it is likely that other children exposed to the same informal faith setting may also be at risk.[192]
127. Another form of abuse to which some girls of African origin may be vulnerable is female genital mutilation (FGM, also called female circumcision and genital cutting). It is estimated that approximately 100-140 million African women have undergone FGM worldwide and each year, a further three million girls are estimated to be at risk of the practice in Africa alone.[193] National FGM campaigning organisation FORWARD UK estimate that 24,000 girls under 15 are at risk each year in England and Wales. The most common age at which it occurs is between four and ten, although it appears to be falling….

Teen sentenced to life in satanic killing By Brian Rogers December 11, 2014  Houston
Corriann Cervantes’ beaming smile and bright eyes lit up a Harris County courtroom Thursday, even though it was just a posterboard-sized photograph that her family brought to show Jose E. Reyes he had not beaten them. The 15-year-old’s aunt, who had just seen Reyes sentenced to life in prison for capital murder in a killing prosecutors said was part of a satanic ritual, made sure the 18-year-old saw the photo on an easel in the center of the courtroom as she berated him from the witness stand….
Reyes, who prosecutors said had bragged that he brutally killed Cervantes with a friend so they could sell their souls to the devil, showed little reaction during four days of emotional testimony and grisly photos, and was emotionless during the verdict….
Among other inflammatory evidence, the jury saw graphic photos of heinous injuries including an upside down cross carved on Cervantes’ stomach….
The last piece of evidence in the trial were letters from jail in which Reyes said the Devil was in the room directing him to act during the slaying.
“He was standing there, watching me and Victor,” the teen wrote in a letter read to jurors Thursday. “It’s all good. It’s what the Devil asked for.”….

‘She cut my hand and sucked the blood out of it,’ woman tells court of black magic fears that led to abuse and rape  Dec 16, 2014   By Liz Keen
Albert Hickman, 65 and his wife Carolee Hickman have pleaded not guilty to historic charges of rape and sexual abuse dating back 40 years….
A schoolgirl terrified by threats of black magic, made by a woman claiming to be a witch has told a jury how she was sexually abused and raped over and over again.
The alleged victim, now in her 50s, said the horror of what she believes happened to her while at comprehensive school had been buried for 40 years before memories resurfaced.
She told Cardiff Crown Court she went to Carolee Hickman’s Bridgend home while mitching school with friends, aged 11, but was soon being terrified into submission.
“Carolee said she was a witch and would come and get me and would make my mother ill – she even said she could kill my mother if she wanted to,” the alleged victim said.

Former RAF man Albert Hickman, 65, pleads not guilty to rape….
She said the abuse came back to her bit by bit when she started having counselling following a series of family tragedies, including close bereavements and cancer.
Her counsellor said alarm bells rang for her when the woman talked of a dark cloud hanging over her, not just since the illnesses and deaths as you would expect, but for 40 years.
“I asked about her childhood but she could remember very little”, the counsellor said
“I would ask her to try to think back – it was her choice – but she was so frightened she didn’t want to look there.
“She knew she lived under a black cloud but was petrified of finding out why.”
Eventually she did think back, it was said and the first returning memories were of black magic, pornography and a woman.
“She remembered darkness and suffocating because a man was top of her and a woman was holding her down….

Woman accused of using black magic to abuse a child laughed out loud when police asked if she was a witch, court hears Dec 17, 2014  By Liz Keen

Carolee Hickman, 64, denies indecently assaulting a schoolgirl and of holding the girl down while her husband Albert John Hickman, 65, raped her in the 1970s….
The court heard she told investigators: “I’ve got books on spells but I wouldn’t know how to do them – I wouldn’t know where to start.
“I had tarot cards too but I didn’t understand them either and a cloak ……and a wand which I bought on eBay. It was just a bit of stick -a right rip off.”
Detective Constable Joanne Lewis told the jury she had found a large number of books on spells and the occult when she arrested the grandmother and her husband, who denies the rape allegation, at home in Shropshire….
She accepted she has an interest in witchcraft but said that had not developed until she left Bridgend and was married for the second time following her divorce from Hickman in 1985.
The court heard the couple were jailed at Northampton Crown Court in November 1982. Mr Hickman was sentenced to five sex offences and she for indecent assault and for aiding and abetting another man to rape a 14-year-old girl as part of a devil worship ritual.
Pornographic material and items used in black magic were seized from that other man’s home….

Couple accused of abusing a child in ‘black magic’ case are found guilty of all counts
Dec 22, 2014 By David Deans  Carolee Hickman, 64, indecently assaulted a schoolgirl and held her down while her husband Albert John Hickman, 65, raped her
A woman accused of using black magic to abuse a child, and her husband, who raped the child as she held her down, have been found guilty of all charges by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.
Carolee Hickman, 64, was on trial for indecently assaulting a schoolgirl and holding the victim down while her husband Albert John Hickman, 65, raped her during the 1970s.
She had been accused of grooming and abusing the young schoolgirl when they lived in South Wales at the time, after petrifying her with black magic threats.
The couple, both of the Wheatlands, Baschurch, Shrewsbury, were found guilty on all counts….
“Carolee said she was a witch and would come and get me and would make my mother ill,” the victim said.
“She even said she could kill my mother if she wanted to.
“She had a knife with a jewelled handle kept in a wooden box with carvings on the top.
“She cut my hand and sucked the blood out of it.

Mr Hickman was sentenced for five sex offences and Mrs Hickman for indecent assault and for aiding and abetting another man to rape a 14 year old girl as part of a devil worship ritual.

N.C. Church Members Charged With Beating Gay Man to Banish ‘Demons’ Five members of the Word of Faith Fellowship face kidnapping and assault charges. BY Trudy Ring December 11 2014  Five members of an evangelical Christian church in western North Carolina have been charged with kidnapping and assault in connection with an attack on a young gay man, which he says was meant to rid him of “homosexual demons.”
Matthew Fenner, now 21, says that in January 2013, “he was threatened with confinement for two days, slapped, strangled and verbally assaulted” by members of the Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, reports North Carolina’s LGBT outlet QNotes.
In an affidavit he submitted to local law enforcement, Fenner said church members confronted him about being gay, telling him it was disgusting. They then began a ritual called “deliverance,” which, he wrote, “meant extremely rough pushing, loud screaming, and other violent measures intended to ‘break me free of the homosexual demons.’”….
The Word of Faith Fellowship has previously faced other accusations of abuse and cult-like practices. In one such instance, in 2012 another man said church members held him against his will for weeks because he is gay, and the U.S. Department of Justice initiated a hate-crime investigation, but the man then recanted his story. Now, though, he says he was manipulated into recanting and has left the church, according to the newspaper. Fenner has also left the congregation, although his mother and brother remain in the church and testified on its behalf before the grand jury….

A Different Kind of Deportation A Del Rey Oaks man struggles to get his unreal life story recorded before it’s too late.  Posted: Thursday, December 11, 2014 by Mark Anderson
Roderick Mackay’s earliest memories are of explosions and urine. He lived at an orphanage in London, sent there from the squalorous Edinburgh housing project where he was born. His father, fresh off a divorce from his mom, sent him there as he was heading off to fight in World War II….
Sixteen of those small children were loaded on an old banana freighter called the SS Bayano that wasn’t any safer than the shelter. As they were shipped across the Atlantic to Canada, the convoy with them lost an oil tanker and nearly an American destroyer to German torpedoes….
Suddenly his entire family was an ocean away. He and the others were bussed from Quebec to a group home/school in rural Victoria. When he reached his new home, the Nov. 10, 1941 Victoria Daily Times headline read “‘Orphans of Blitz’ Arrive at Fairbridge School After Hazardous Journey From Britain.” Life at Fairbridge School proved more than enough to make Oliver Twist blush, and inspired a memoir that recently topped 240 pages. Ritual humiliations, head trauma and lashings all figured in.

Child abuse royal commission: victim recounts being raped during ritual at Satyananda Yoga Ashram
By Claire Aird  December 4, 2014  A young girl was raped by the head of a global yoga movement, Satyananda Sawaswati, on his visit to a New South Wales ashram, an inquiry has heard. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse hearing into the Satyananda Yoga Ashram at Mangrove Mountain on the state’s central coast was also told a group of swamis abused the girl in a ritual setting.  The girl, known as APR in the hearing, moved to the ashram with her mother, father and sister in the late 1970s. The abuse started when she was three years old. “The ashram was the kind of place that if you scream, no-one comes,” she said. At the ashram, family relationships were broken down and parents separated from their children, who were routinely beaten, sexually abused and deprived of adequate medical treatment and food.  Attendees were referred to as “Innamtes” by the head of the movement, handed their assets to the ashram, shaved their heads, and wore orange robes. “I feel the entire ashram was groomed into a place of powerlessness,” APR said….

Child abuse royal commission: Mindset of NSW yoga retreat ‘as dangerous as ever’, witness tells hearing
By Nicole Chettle   December 3, 2014 A former resident of Australia’s oldest yoga ashram has received applause after delivering a passionate call for justice at the child sexual abuse royal commission in Sydney.
The commission has been looking at the handling of 11 complaints made against former spiritual leader Swami Akhandananda Saraswati over the past 40 years, relating to abuse that happened in the 1970s and ’80s.
The issue came to a head around Easter this year when the Satyananda Yoga Ashram in New South Wales sent an email to former members detailing a “healing ceremony” that formed part of its 40th anniversary commemorations.
One woman known as APK, who, along with her sister, endured years of physical and sexual abuse….
Akhandananda was convicted on charges of indecency and jailed in 1989, but his conviction was overturned in 1991. He died in 1997….

Child abuse royal commission: Yoga leader told children sex acts would aid ‘spiritual growth’
By Brad Ryan, Nicole Chettle and Emily Bourke  December 2, 2014
The spiritual leader of a New South Wales yoga retreat sexually abused child residents after summoning them to a hut and asking them for a massage, an inquiry has heard.
Children were also allegedly directed to travel around Australia with the man, known as Swami Akhandananda Saraswati, and perform sexual acts in his bed.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has opened its 21st case study, focused on the the Satyananda Yoga Ashram at Mangrove Mountain in the hinterland of the New South Wales central coast.
The commission is examining allegations from the 1970s and 1980s involving the ashram’s former leader, Akhandananda, who was jailed for sex offences in the late 1980s but had his conviction overturned before his death in 1997.
Counsel assisting the commission, Peggy Dwyer, said nine alleged victims would give evidence of sexual and physical abuse, and statements would be tendered by another two.
“I expect that the royal commission will hear evidence that this sexual abuse often occurred in the hut that Akhandananda shared with [fellow swami] Shishy,” Ms Dwyer told the Sydney hearing….
Akhandananda was jailed in 1989 for sexually abusing four teenage girls whilst they were residing at the ashram, including Ms Buchanan.
She said she felt “victimised all over again” when Akhandananda’s conviction was overturned on appeal and he was released after serving 14 months in prison….

Texas judge recommends against innocence finding for ex-day care operators in sex abuse case
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS   December 02, 2014 AUSTIN, Texas — A judge in Austin has recommended against a finding of innocence for two ex-day care owners who spent 21 years imprisoned on a child sex abuse conviction. Dan and Fran Keller, who divorced in prison, seek exoneration in a case prosecutors say involved child abuse and satanic rituals. The Kellers were convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child involving a 3-year-old girl. The Kellers were released on bond last year when the physical evidence was found to be a mistake by an examining physician. Judge Wilford Flowers, who presided over the trial, on Monday ruled the Kellers again failed to provide proof of innocence. It’s the third such decision by Flowers. His recommendation goes to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Congress Clashes Over Release Of CIA Torture Report  December 08, 2014  Lauren Hodges  Leaders on Capitol Hill are at odds regarding a report on CIA methods — including torture — used to extract information in the so-called war on terror.
Chairwoman of the Senate intelligence committee Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has been fighting for the release of her 480-page executive summary of the report since April of this year, and it finally was scheduled for a reveal this week….
NPR’s Sam Sanders reported Sunday that “officials who’ve seen the report say it details sleep deprivation, confinement and waterboarding.”
On Weekend Edition Sunday, NPR’s Mara Liasson spoke with host Rachel Martin about the Obama administration’s view of the release.
“The administration supports releasing the report. And the State Department says Kerry told Feinstein that the timing of the release was her choice. But the administration is concerned about how the report would affect ongoing efforts against ISIS, the Islamic State terrorist group, and the safety of Americans who are being held hostage around the world. And it wants those issues to be taken into account.”….

U.S. on alert for release of report on CIA’s use of torture
The Canadian Press By Alexander Panetta December 8, 2014  WASHINGTON – For months, there’s been a battle in the shadows of Washington over a report on torture by the CIA.
The covert conflict saw the CIA spy on Congress. Intelligence officials quietly argued against the report’s release, on the basis that it would endanger American lives. The White House eventually stepped in, mediating negotiations about what to include — and what to black out.
It’s being made public now.
A congressional committee that studied the use of torture during the Bush era is poised Tuesday to release a 480-page executive summary of its findings, a heavily scrutinized and edited synopsis of a broader 6,000-page document compiled by a Senate panel….
The CIA admitted to snooping on Senate staffers’ computers while they prepared the report. At first, the agency denied accusations of domestic espionage against the elected body. Eventually, it confessed and apologized, ascribing its actions to the belief that staffers were consulting unauthorized documents.
Still, that failed to mollify members of Congress. Several called for the CIA director’s resignation for what they described as a violation of the country’s basic democratic order….
The report into the CIA comes six years after the Senate released a study into the military — and offered a glimpse into how its interrogation techniques were developed after 9-11.
It described how two instructors from the Navy went to the Guantanamo Bay detention centre in 2002 to teach 24 guards there about methods used by Chinese communists during the Korean War, against American POWs.
The Chinese method came to be rebranded as Biderman’s Principles, after the academic who researched the Korean War practice. He boiled it down to an eight-step program: physical isolation, followed by sensory deprivation, exhaustion and discomfort, threats, occasional rewards, powerlessness, physical degradation, and the enforcement of arbitrary rules.
According to the 2008 Senate report, the Navy trainers handed out a chart on those coercive techniques to the personnel at Guantanamo Bay.

CIA torture report: US raises security ahead of release  8 December 2014
The report appears to conclude CIA officials lied about the programme to Bush administration officials….
The full 6,000-page report, produced by the Senate Intelligence Committee, remains classified.
The 480-page summary is being released by Democrats on the panel.
President Barack Obama halted the CIA interrogation programme when he took office in 2009, and has acknowledged that the methods used to question al-Qaeda prisoners amounted to torture.
During the presidency of George W Bush, the CIA operation against al-Qaeda – known internally as the Rendition, Detention and Interrogation – saw as many as 100 suspected terrorists held in “black sites” outside the US.
Analysis: Jon Sopel, BBC North America editor
What more can we learn about the CIA’s interrogation programme from this heavily redacted report? Based on leaks, Tuesday’s release seems to answer three major questions:
First. Were the interrogation methods – torture if you like – more extensive and more brutal than previously admitted? It looks like the conclusion is yes.
Second. Did these interrogation techniques deliver life-saving intelligence to the US? That answer appears to be no.
Third. Were CIA officials at the time honest with the White House on what the programme was getting up to? Again, no….
They were interrogated using methods such as waterboarding, slapping, humiliation, exposure to cold, and sleep deprivation….

Sexual threats, other CIA methods detailed in Senate report  By Mark Hosenball and Jeff Mason   WASHINGTON Mon Dec 8, 2014
(Reuters) – Graphic details about sexual threats and other harsh interrogation techniques the CIA meted out to captured militants will be detailed by a Senate Intelligence Committee report on the spy agency’s anti-terror tactics, sources familiar with the document said.
The report, which the committee’s majority Democrats are expected to release on Tuesday, describes how senior al Qaeda operative Abdel Rahman al Nashiri, suspected mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, was threatened by his interrogators with a buzzing power drill, the sources said. The drill was never actually used on Nashiri.
In another instance, the report documents how at least one detainee was sexually threatened with a broomstick, the sources said….
The report, which took years to produce, charts the history of the CIA’s “Rendition, Detention and Interrogation” program, which Bush authorized after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Bush ended many aspects of the program before leaving office, and Obama swiftly banned so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques,” which critics say are torture, after his 2009 inauguration.
The committee’s bottom-line conclusion is that harsh interrogations did not produce a single critical intelligence nugget that could not have been obtained by non-coercive means.
That conclusion is strongly disputed by many intelligence and counter-terrorism officials, who say that there is no question such interrogations led to major breakthroughs….
While the Justice Department had authorized techniques like sleep deprivation, controls and supervision of such methods were sometimes lax when the CIA began detaining and interrogating militants starting in August 2002, said sources familiar with the interrogation program.
A more rigorous system of monitoring how the techniques were used was in place by early 2003, the sources said….

Panel Faults C.I.A. Over Brutality and Deceit in Interrogations  By MARK MAZZETTI DEC. 9, 2014
WASHINGTON — The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday issued a sweeping indictment of the Central Intelligence Agency’s program to detain and interrogate terrorism suspects in the years after the Sept. 11 attacks, drawing on millions of internal C.I.A. documents to illuminate practices that it said were more brutal — and far less effective — than the agency acknowledged either to Bush administration officials or to the public.
The long-delayed report delivers a withering judgment on one of the most controversial tactics of a twilight war waged over a dozen years. The Senate committee’s investigation, born of what its chairwoman, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, said was a need to reckon with the excesses of this war, found that C.I.A. officials routinely misled the White House and Congress about the information it obtained, and failed to provide basic oversight of the secret prisons it established around the world.
In exhaustive detail, the report gives a macabre accounting of some of the grisliest techniques that the C.I.A. used to torture and imprison terrorism suspects. Detainees were deprived of sleep for as long as a week, and were sometimes told that they would be killed while in American custody. With the approval of the C.I.A.’s medical staff, some prisoners were subjected to medically unnecessary “rectal feeding” or “rectal hydration” — a technique that the C.I.A.’s chief of interrogations described as a way to exert “total control over the detainee.” C.I.A. medical staff members described the waterboarding of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the chief planner of the Sept. 11 attacks, as a “series of near drownings.”
….The torture of prisoners at times was so extreme that some C.I.A. personnel tried to put a halt to the techniques, but were told by senior agency officials to continue the interrogation sessions.
The Senate report quotes a series of August 2002 cables from a C.I.A. facility in Thailand, where the agency’s first prisoner was held. Within days of the Justice Department’s approval to begin waterboarding the prisoner, Abu Zubaydah, the sessions became so extreme that some C.I.A. officers were “to the point of tears and choking up,” and several said they would elect to be transferred out of the facility if the brutal interrogations continued.
….The committee’s report concluded that of the 119 detainees, “at least 26 were wrongfully held.”
….The program expanded, with dozens of detainees taken to secret prisons in Poland, Romania, Lithuania and other countries. In September 2006, Mr. Bush ordered all of the detainees in C.I.A. custody to be transferred to the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and after that the C.I.A. held a small number of detainees in secret at a different facility for several months at a time, before they were also moved to Guantánamo Bay.
Taken in its entirety, the report is a portrait of a spy agency that was wholly unprepared for its new mission as jailers and interrogators, but that embraced its assignment with vigor. The report chronicles millions of dollars in secret payments between 2002 and 2004 from the C.I.A. to foreign officials, aimed at getting other governments to agree to host secret prisons.

More Than A Quarter Of The World’s Countries Helped The CIA Run Its Torture Program 12/09/2014
….According to several U.S. officials involved with the negotiations, the intelligence community has long been concerned that the Senate document would enable readers to identify the many countries that aided the CIA’s controversial torture program between 2002 and roughly 2006. These countries made the CIA program possible in two ways: by enabling rendition, which involved transferring U.S. detainees abroad without due legal process, and by providing facilities far beyond the reach of U.S. law where those detainees were subjected to torture.

Senate report finds CIA torture produced ‘fabricated’ intel and thwarted no plots  After waterboarding, 9/11 mastermind told interrogators what ‘he thought they wanted to hear’  By Michael Isikoff   12/9/14
After days of brutal interrogations, in which he was slammed against walls, slapped in the gut, and repeatedly waterboarded — “near drownings” that caused him to vomit — 9/11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told his CIA interrogators he was “ready to talk.”
The story he told in March 2003: He had sent an al-Qaida operative to Montana to recruit African-Americans for terrorist attacks inside the U.S. The alarming new claim sent FBI agents scrambling to find evidence of the plot, but they came up with nothing.
And for good reason: KSM later admitted he had fabricated the story — that because he was being subjected to such rough measures, he “simply told his interrogators what he thought they wanted to hear,” according to an internal agency cable quoted in the mammoth Senate Intelligence Committee report released on Tuesday by the panel’s chair, Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
The invented Montana plot is only one example of multiple wild-goose chases and other false leads that were produced by the CIA’s use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” — what President Barack Obama himself has labeled “torture” — in the years after 9/11, according to the 489-page Senate report.
“The methods in question … regularly resulted in fabricated information,” the report states in its key findings….
Many of the techniques laid out in the report have been publicly known for years — forced nudity, sleep deprivation, dietary and temperature manipulation, wall slamming and, of course, waterboarding, a practice dating back to the Spanish Inquisition in which subjects are strapped down and doused with water to simulate the experience of drowning….
A CIA prison in Afghanistan (known as the Salt Pit but referred to as COBALT in the report) was described in CIA cables as a “dungeon” where hooded prisoners were kept in complete darkness and shackled in isolated cells with loud noise or music — and only a bucket to use for human waste. One of the detainees died from hypothermia after being left naked from the waist down….
The committee report examined 20 “case studies” in which agency officials had claimed they had thwarted plots or rounded up suspects based on aggressive interrogations. These assertions, the panel found, were “inaccurate and contradicted by the CIA’s own records.”….–fabricated–intel-and-thwarted-no-plots—232012393.html

Here Are The Most Horrific Details From The Senate Torture Report 12/09/2014
On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee released the long-awaited summary of its torture report, revealing horrific details about the CIA’s post-9/11 detention and interrogation program.
Many of the details in the report are sickening and graphic. They are perhaps made only more disturbing by the overarching conclusion that the torture and “enhanced interrogation” employed by the CIA failed to produce the types of significant intelligence that had been used to defend the program in the past.
You can go here to read the unsealed summary of the report, including a section on initial findings and hundreds of pages of declassified documents. Below is a compilation of some of the most abhorrent details from it….

The CIA Didn’t Just Torture, It Experimented on Human Beings
Reframing the CIA’s interrogation techniques as a violation of scientific and medical ethics may be the best way to achieve accountability.  Lisa Hajjar  December 16, 2014
Human experimentation was a core feature of the CIA’s torture program. The experimental nature of the interrogation and detention techniques is clearly evident in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s executive summary of its investigative report, despite redactions (insisted upon by the CIA) to obfuscate the locations of these laboratories of cruel science and the identities of perpetrators.
At the helm of this human experimentation project were two psychologists hired by the CIA, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen. They designed interrogation and detention protocols that they and others applied to people imprisoned in the agency’s secret “black sites.”
In its response to the Senate report, the CIA justified its decision to hire the duo: “We believe their expertise was so unique that we would have been derelict had we not sought them out when it became clear that CIA would be heading into the uncharted territory of the program.” Mitchell and Jessen’s qualifications did not include interrogation experience, specialized knowledge about Al Qaeda or relevant cultural or linguistic knowledge. What they had was Air Force experience in studying the effects of torture on American prisoners of war, as well as a curiosity about whether theories of “learned helplessness” derived from experiments on dogs might work on human enemies….
The “war on terror” is not the CIA’s first venture into human experimentation. At the dawn of the Cold War, German scientists and doctors with Nazi records of human experimentation were given new identities and brought to the United States under Operation Paperclip. During the Korean War, alarmed by the shocking rapidity of American POWs’ breakdowns and indoctrination by their communist captors, the CIA began investing in mind-control research. In 1953, the CIA established the MK-ULTRA program, whose earliest phase involved hypnosis, electroshock and hallucinogenic drugs. The program evolved into experiments in psychological torture that adapted elements of Soviet and Chinese models, including longtime standing, protracted isolation, sleep deprivation and humiliation. Those lessons soon became an applied “science” in the Cold War.
During the Vietnam War, the CIA developed the Phoenix program, which combined psychological torture with brutal interrogations, human experimentation and extrajudicial executions. In 1963, the CIA produced a manual titled “Kubark Counterintelligence Interrogation” to guide agents in the art of extracting information from “resistant” sources by combining techniques to produce “debility, disorientation and dread.” Like the communists, the CIA largely eschewed tactics that violently target the body in favor of those that target the mind by systematically attacking all human senses in order to produce the desired state of compliance. The Phoenix program model was incorporated into the curriculum of the School of the Americas, and an updated version of the Kubark guide, produced in 1983 and titled “Human Resource Exploitation Manual,” was disseminated to the intelligence services of right-wing regimes in Latin America and Southeast Asia during the global “war on communism.”
In the mid-1980s, CIA practices became the subject of congressional investigations into US-supported atrocities in Central America….

Why the Torture Report Won’t Change Anything  At most, it only further proves the incompatibility of a secret intelligence service and an open democracy.  Tim Weiner  December 16, 2014
The report on the brutalities of the CIA’s secret prisons is the most important work by the Senate Intelligence Committee since congressional oversight of the CIA began in the 1970s. Its descriptions of torture and deception are as compelling as the newsreels of the Nuremberg trials….
It appears that the CIA did not give President Bush a full report on the gory details of the secret prisons for four years. This is “plausible deniability,” which shields the president from legal or moral hazard by keeping him in the dark. That practice was supposed to have ended decades ago.
The CIA had also forbidden the use of torture—“not only because it is wrong, but because it has historically proven to be ineffective,” in the words of Richard Stolz, chief of the clandestine service under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Stolz is cited in the Senate report. The CIA’s codes of conduct before 9/11 clearly stated, “Inhumane physical or psychological techniques are counterproductive because they do not produce intelligence and will probably result in false answers.”
False answers were what Congress got from Bush’s CIA directors and their underlings. They delivered deceptive testimony and destroyed videotapes of torture. Brennan had to reprimand five officers for cybersnooping on the Senate’s files. The intelligence committees cannot function if the CIA lies to them and spies on them. That, too, was supposed to have ended when the committees were created in the 1970s….

Is This German Scouting Ritual Child Abuse?
Though the country’s major scouting associations say the practice of “Pflocken,” in which children are tied down, isn’t acceptable, the timeworn practice continues.
Markus C. Schulte von Drach (2014-12-16)
MUNICH — It’s spring 2014 at a boy scout camp in southern Germany. Younger boys and adolescents are cavorting about, practicing, learning and generally having fun. Then word spreads that a boy named Mark is about to be targeted for “Pflocken,” so the boys gather to watch what’s about to happen. Mark, who’s about 11, has done something wrong, “something bad,” and he’s going to be punished.
Group leaders set him down on a table and bind his arms and legs, which are spread out. Gummy snake candy is then stuffed into his mouth. “Almost everybody thought it was funny,” say some of the kids who were there. But some boys didn’t find it funny at all. They may have worried they would face similar treatment one day.
The practice of so-called “Pflocken” usually happens outdoors. Online descriptions and photos confirm that. Four tent pegs are hammered into the ground, and the boy is tied to them with rope. The bound child doesn’t know what awaits him, so uncertainty and fear are part of the equation. He’s then tickled, body-marked with felt-tip pens and sometimes doused with water. There are stories on the Internet of kids being smeared with honey or leftover food.
How often this goes on is unclear. The Cologne-based Zartbitter association, whose mission is to protect boys and girls from abuse, reported in 2011 that groups used Pflocken either as punishment or as part of an induction ritual….
The three largest scout associations in Germany tell us that the practice is very well-known. In fact, according to Kerstin Fuchs, federal chair of the Catholic Saint George German Scout Association (DPSG), it used to be a timeworn tradition. But the associations all express surprise that the ritual is still happening….

Tanzania: Ritual Killers On the Loose, As Authorities Appeal for Calm  12 December 2014 By Meddy Mulisa  Bukoba — RITUAL killers, human head hunters and sexual predators are out of their lairs again. They are on the prowl. Five people have been killed in Bukoba Municipality in what seems to be an orgy of superstitious murders.
This time the killers in Bukoba harvested the genitalia out of their victims and escaped with them. Panic is high among Kagera residents. Bukoba District Administrative Secretary (DAS), Clement Ndyamukama has appealed for joint cooperation from members of the public in fighting crime, including ritual killings which are on the increase….
The United Nations human rights officials report a spike in ritual attacks and killings of people with albinism in Tanzania….This, it says, brings the number of attacks since 2000 to 151, including 74 murders….

Man sentenced to jail for ‘execution’ of cat during sex ritual
Daryl Slade, Calgary Herald  Published on: December 15, 2014
A man who slit the throat of a cat obtained on an Internet site and used it as part of a sick sexual ritual with his girlfriend has been jailed for 20 months and banned from owning any animals for life.
Provincial court Judge Brian Stevenson said Monday in sentencing Steven Edward Alcorn, 29, that the offender committed the act on Sept. 25, 2012 — just days after it was purchased through an ad on Kijiji — for his own sexual gratification.
“This is nothing short of an execution,” the judge concluded. “He found it to be sexually arousing and violated the trust that should be present between an owner and a pet.”
Stevenson also gave Alcorn three months consecutive for an assault on his girlfriend three months after the cat was slain and one month consecutive for breaching release conditions for a total 24-month sentence. With just over three months pre-trial credit, he has just under 21 months to serve.
Alcorn, who had pleaded guilty in November 2013, was also placed on probation for three years and must take counselling for domestic abuse and anger management….

Cartel cannibalism: Mexico says drug gang members ate human hearts By Gabriel Stargardter January 6, 2015 MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – A vicious Mexican drug gang forced some members to eat the hearts of murder victims as part of a gruesome initiation rite to root out infiltrators, a government security official said on Tuesday, citing witness testimony.
For much of the past year, Michoacan, a mountainous, agricultural state in western Mexico, has been ravaged by fighting between drug gang henchmen and vigilantes who took up arms against the cartels but have since splintered into violent factions.
A mid-December shootout between two rival groups that killed 11 people has reignited fears the government is failing to control the state after flooding it with federal troops and pressing vigilantes into a fledgling rural police force….
Interviewed on local television, Alfredo Castillo, Michoacan’s federal security commissioner, denied cannibalism was widespread, but said there were various testimonies indicating heart-eating was part of a macabre initiation Moreno used to root out moles or test his men’s loyalty. “The ritual ranged from dismembering people they intended to kill to sometimes serving up the heart,” Castillo said. He did not elaborate on who provided the testimony and did not specify when and where the alleged initiation rituals took place. Castillo could not immediately be reached for comment.
More than 100,000 people have been killed in gang-related violence in Mexico since 2007.

Splinter group the Knights Templar also took part, witnesses said
Decurity official said sometimes initiates would dismember live victims
By Kieran Corcoran For and Reuters  6 January 2015
New recruits to a vicious Mexican drug cartel were forced to eat the hearts of murder victims in a twisted scheme to prove their loyalty, officials said.
Hopefuls who wanted to join La Familia Michoacana were reportedly fed the internal organs during gruesome initiation ceremonies designed to roof out infiltrators or other disloyal elements.
Witnesses told government security bosses how La Familia, and offshoot an offshoot group called the Knights Templar, would also sometimes force potential cartel members to dismember victims while they were still alive.
Alfredo Castillo, the federal security commissioner for gang-ravaged Mexican state Michoacan, told local television: ‘The ritual ranged from dismembering people they intended to kill to sometimes serving up the heart.’
He said that the practice was not widespread, but was emphatic that it had taken place, seemingly on several occasions….

Child Abuse and Trauma Issues

Child abuse, adversity associated with poor health and employment outcomes later in life
People who currently fall into low-income and educational brackets are up to five times as likely to have faced abuse and adversity during childhood as people who fall into higher socioeconomic groups, according to a University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health analysis of Allegheny County residents.
The findings, which will be presented Tuesday at the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) annual meeting in New Orleans, support the merit of “whole family” programs that seek to break the cycle of adversity and negative health, economic and social outcomes that persist over generations.
Eliminating childhood abuse and adversity significantly improves health – reducing heart disease by more than 26 percent and serious mental illness by more than 41 percent, the research team determined in a separate study presented Monday.
….People with a low socioeconomic status had 1.7 to 4.2 times higher prevalence for each of the six adverse childhood events compared with people of higher socioeconomic status.
People who reported they were unable to work also reported a prevalence of sexual abuse five times higher than those reporting employment.
The results are consistent with those of similar surveys conducted in other communities nationwide….

Dissociative identity disorder: An empirical overview
Martin J Dorahy, Bethany L Brand, Vedat Sar, Christa Krüger, Pam Stavropoulos, Alfonso Martínez-Taboas, Roberto Lewis-Fernández, Warwick Middleton, Australian & New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry 2014, Vol. 48(5) 402–417  DOI: 10.1177/0004867414527523
The overview is limited to DID-specific research in which one or more of the following conditions are met: (i) a sample of participants with DID was systematically investigated, (ii) psychometrically-sound measures were utilised, (iii) comparisons were made with other samples, (iv) DID was differentiated from other disorders, including other dissociative disorders, (v) extraneous variables were controlled or (vi) DID diagnosis was confirmed. Following an examination of challenges to research, data are organised around the validity and phenomenology of DID, its aetiology and epidemiology, the neurobiological and cognitive correlates of the disorder, and finally its treatment.
DID was found to be a complex yet valid disorder across a range of markers. It can be accurately discriminated from other disorders, especially when structured diagnostic interviews assess identity alterations and amnesia. DID is aetiologically associated with a complex combination of developmental and cultural factors, including severe childhood relational trauma. The prevalence of DID appears highest in emergency psychiatric settings and affects approximately 1% of the general population. Psychobiological studies are beginning to identify clear correlates of DID associated with diverse brain areas and cognitive functions. They are also providing an understanding of the potential metacognitive origins of amnesia. Phase-oriented empirically-guided treatments are emerging for DID.
The empirical literature on DID is accumulating, although some areas remain under-investigated. Existing
data show DID as a complex, valid and not uncommon disorder, associated with developmental and cultural variables, that is amenable to psychotherapeutic intervention….
Because the aetiology of DID is associated with childhood relational trauma, the discomfort
caused by studying DID may serve as a potent disincentive to its investigation. Thus avoiding study of DID protects mainstream social institutions – at the expense of the children who are violated by them – as well as enabling researchers, clinicians and the public to retain a comforting denial of both the occurrence of abuse and its disabling psychiatric legacy. Hence avoidance of the central issues associated with DID operates not only in the patient, but in society at large….
Both universal and cultural processes influence the development and phenomenology of DID (Dorahy, 2001a).
Dissociation and DD can be found in all cultural settings (e.g. Spiegel et al., 2013; Stein et
al., 2013). DID has been documented in Turkey, Puerto Rico, Scandinavia, Japan, Canada, Australia, the USA, the Philippines, Ireland, the UK and Argentina, among many other cultural and geographical contexts (Rhoades and Sar, 2005)….
Every study that has systematically examined aetiology has found that antecedent severe, chronic childhood trauma is present in the histories of almost all individuals with DID….
It is important to consider health costs associated with DID. A Canadian treatment study of DID concluded that annual costs dropped from C$75,000 to C$36,000 in the 3 years after treatment for DID (Ross and Dua, 1993). This and other studies document considerable cost savings even for those who had been chronically ill before being appropriately treated for DID (Lloyd, 2011)….
The empirical literature on DID emerging over the past 30 years shows that, beyond the rhetoric and controversy, DID is a valid disorder characterised by amnesia, identity confusion and coexistence of dissociative identities which can be differentiated from other psychiatric disorders as well as from feigned presentations of DID. Characteristic features include a complex array of co-existing symptoms associated with psychosis, mood, anxiety, affect regulation and personality functioning. A mix of subtle and overt developmental, interpersonal and cultural drivers produce DID, with childhood attachment-based trauma appearing to be a universal factor, while social idioms of self produce components of cultural specificity.
DID is found around the globe in almost every culture in which researchers have carefully assessed for the range of dissociative symptoms. Orbitofrontal, cortico-limbic and temporal anomalies are evident in DID, with different neurobiological profiles found across identities than those in simulation….

USC study challenges traditional data: points to higher rates of child abuse   Andrea Gardner
New research from the University of Southern California’s Children’s Data Network shows that approximately one in 20 children in California are victims of substantiated abuse or neglect before they reach their fifth birthday. The study separately found that about 1 in 7 California children are reported to county Child Protective Services agencies over suspected abuse before they reach age 5….

GCHQ to help tackle ‘dark net’ child abuse images   11 December 2014  Intelligence experts and organised crime specialists will join forces to tackle child abuse images on the “dark net”, David Cameron has said. The prime minister said a joint GCHQ and National Crime Agency unit would hunt online paedophiles with the same “effort” used to track terrorists. Speaking at a London summit, he said online child exploitation existed on an “almost industrial scale” worldwide. He also unveiled a law to stop adults sending children “sexual” messages….
Mr Cameron said the new unit was part of a drive to remove millions of “sickening and depraved” images from the internet. The term “dark net” refers to parts of the internet that are hidden and can be hard to access without special software, and Downing Street said the new unit would be able to analyse huge volumes of images….
Mr Cameron said children were being “abused to order” by some international gangs….
Responding to Mr Cameron’s comments, shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said there were “very serious gaps” in the government’s plans because “thousands of cases of abuse are not being followed up by the police”.
“We know the National Crime Agency has details of over 20,000 suspected of accessing images of child abuse under Operation Notarise, and yet they have only investigated a tiny proportion of these – and arrested fewer than 1,000,” she said….

Tor’s most visited hidden sites host child abuse images By Mark Ward Technology correspondent, BBC News 30 December 2014  Most traffic to sites hidden on the Tor network go to those dealing in images of child sexual abuse a study suggests. The six-month study sought to catalogue hidden services on the so-called “dark net” and work out which were the most popular.
It found lots of sites peddling illegal drugs but the most popular were those involved with abuse.
However, the researcher behind the study said it was hard to conclude that people were behind all the visits.Tor, or The Onion Router, is an anonymising system that lets people use the web without revealing who they are or which country they are in. The anonymity offered by the network has encouraged many people to set up hidden .onion sites that offer content, services and goods that it is illegal to sell openly….Although the number of sites dealing in images of abuse on Tor is small, traffic to them dwarfs that going to other sites, said Dr Owen. About 75% of the traffic observed in the study ended up at abuse sites, said Dr Owen….

Blinded by Darkness: The Collective Denial of Evil and Its Impact on Psychiatric Treatment By Rev Sheri Heller, LCSW   The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing –Edmund Burke
….We stigmatize victims, denouncing them as inferior given their emotional instability, while lauding the capable and convincing psychopath.
….Evil denotes an absence of good. It is that which is depraved and immoral. In this article we will address the conundrum of human evil—specifically the evil we inflict upon one another—and the collective denial of its very existence, which in turn allows for evil’s proliferation.
….Prolonged exposure to the psychopath’s abuse and exploitation results in complex PTSD, and in the worst case scenarios dissociative identity disorder (DID). The victims of psychopaths are emotionally, psychologically, physically, financially, and socially devastated. The visibility of their distress and symptoms makes victims vulnerable to being stigmatized.
….This socially Darwinistic paradigm illustrates how the psychopaths’ advantages over their victims supports a “survival of the fittest” template. The fittest are elevated, irrespective of their character. Signs of weakness and fragility are subject to condemnation. Power and status are the relevant markers for what is valued and esteemed.
….On a global scale we see the same defenses employed in response to allegations of clergy sexual abuse and cover-ups perpetrated by the Catholic Church. In spite of the church’s heinous history of aligning with Hitler and Mussolini, implementing the Inquisition and Crusades, the Magdalene laundries, the witch-hunts, and the supported democide and slavery in the Americas, Africa, and Australia, the persistence with upholding naïve, illusory ideas of spiritual infallibility and idealized notions of virtue trump accountability and objective reality. When followers succumb to pathological influence, what results is a collusion with evil.
….This study (Milgram’s) reinforces what psychopaths understand; that the innate inclination to uphold and obey authority is rooted in sundry factors such as fear, identification with the aggressor, and the need to belong. As long as there are no serious repercussions, orders dispensed by an authority figure are generally obeyed, irrespective of whether they oppose our morals. This predisposition offers the psychopath malleable, yielding victims ripe for exploitation and abuse.
None of us are immune to the intimidation of authority. The world is rife with leaders in high positions of power who are pathologically evil. For myriad reasons our innate inclinations to conform and obey eclipse our moral judgment. Unknowingly, ignorantly, carelessly and unintentionally we collude with evil more often than not.
….The dark side of humanity must be acknowledged if victims of evil are to assimilate what was done to them.

Invisible Scars Documentary    Invisible Scars explores Child Sexual Abuse (“CSA”) through the eyes of Johnna Janis, a woman, mother, wife, and friend who appears strong and confident. She candidly reveals the life-long struggles she has faced from the events that have haunted her since childhood.
With the assistance of experts and leaders in the fight against CSA, she comes to understand how her emotional trauma has negatively impacted her self-image, her interpersonal relationships, and nearly all significant decisions in her life. Armed with this awareness, she explores tools and resources which are available to help CSA victims overcome the debilitating effects of their childhood experiences.
This film also presents an opportunity for the public to become educated, to understand the prevalence and devastating impact of child sexual abuse in our society, and to support efforts to help prevent other children from becoming victims.
